The Evaluation is the final step in your Research Project B. It accounts for 30% of your grade and is the External component of your subject. This means that your teacher will not give you an official grade as it is also marked at the SACE board. The Assessment Criteria: evaluate the usefulness of the research processes used specific to the research question. Students make judgments about the effectiveness of processes they used to collect information as part of their research (e.g. qualitative and quantitative research, practical experimentation, fieldwork). They make reference to specific sources of information to provide examples of the usefulness of the research processes. evaluate decisions made in response to challenges and/or opportunities specific to the research processes used. Students make judgments about their actions when faced with challenges and/or opportunities while using research processes. They draw conclusions about the effect of these actions on the research. evaluate the quality of the Research Outcome. Students make balanced judgments about the quality of their Research Outcome with a focus on the significance of their findings, and the particular features that influence the overall value and worth of their Research Outcome, including the extent to which the question has been resolved. organise their information coherently and communicate ideas accurately and appropriately. The Evaluation is the final step in your Research Project B. It accounts for 30% of your grade and is the External component of your subject. This means that your teacher will not give you an official grade as it is also marked at the SACE board.

The Assessment Criteria:

evaluate the usefulness of the research processes used specific to the research question.

What you have to do:

Students prepare a written summary of the research question and the Research Outcome, to a maximum of 150 words. This summary is assessed.

Students must present their Evaluation in written form to a maximum of 1500 words (excluding the written summary).

The Evaluation can include visual material (e.g. photographs and diagrams), integrated into the written text.

Part 1 – The Summary

You are required to write a 150-word summary of your topic. In this you are assessed against the S3 criteria – the coherency of your writing. This is an opportunity for you to share your reasons for choosing the topic, any refinement that occurred, the processes you used, the main key finding and the way in which you completed your Outcome.

Remember, the person who is marking your work knows nothing about it and the reasons why you chose it. It is crucial you are very clear in this and clarify why you chose your topic and how it related to you.

1. Why did you choose your research project question?2. What is the purpose of your research question?3. Which research processes were used?4. Outline your key findings5. How was your research outcome presented?

Part 2 - Evaluation

Evaluation of the Research Processes • Evaluate at least 3 different research processes• Examples of research processes that you may have used are:

– Conducting interviews and analysing results– Conducting surveys and analysing results– Finding and analysing articles online– Finding and analysing journal articles– Finding and analysing books– Using and evaluating YouTube clips

In each section, you should:- Define the process- Make a judgement about the success/limitations of the process- What was the key finding from the source(s)

o Include quotes – reference your quoteso Cross reference your findings between sources

- Reference CRAAP in relation to some of your key sources

Ensure that this is NOT a recount. You should be analysing the

research process.

Evaluation of Decisions made in Response to Challenges and/or Opportunities Specific to the Research Process

You should try to discuss two challenges or opportunities. You may decide to discuss one of each or two of one kind. Remember this should be focused on processes.

1. Describe the Scenario of the challenge/opportunity

2. Describe the Action that you took

3. Make a Judgement as to the effectiveness of the decision – what did it lead to and how do you know?

1. Development of your knowledge2. You may like you use examples from your research and key findings to

further demonstrate this.

4. Describe the Outcome of your decision1. What happened as a result? 2. Positives/negatives

Evaluation of the quality of the Research Outcome

• To what extent did your research outcome achieve your aim?• To what extent did your research outcome answer your question?

• What are the strengths in the way that your outcome answered the research question?• Give examples of sources that supported your key findings and

showed different views on the question?• What are the weaknesses in the way that your outcome answered the

research question?• What is the quality of the outcome as a piece of research answering your

research question?• How valuable is your outcome to you and the wider community?

• Be realistic – does it help the scientific community or develop new knowledge? How do you know this?

• It is more for you and will help you plan for the future? Why?
