Life is what is before us right now ... One of the great values of Lent and other seasons of suffering is how they illuminate the present moment. When the disciples want to make camp on the mountaintop, Jesus doesn’t know what to say to them knowing that they were frightened. Following this, a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him.”. When God calls to Abraham, the response is, “Here I am.” Listening to God’s call is an essential discipline. We need not fear or worry about whether we like or dislike what God is asking. We need to be attentive to God’s call and respond as Abraham did. God is faithful, and we have this present moment to respond.Prayer of the Faithful: For attentive listening to God and each other in each moment, we pray to the Lord.Prayer: God of the Mountains, you call us to climb hard paths, to glory at the summit, and to descend again to continue our mission to love. Keep us focused on the life that is before us, with our hands and hearts open to the gifts that lie right in front of us. Amen.Life and Family - Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops

2021 - A YEAR DEDICATED TO THE FAMILY ...Pope Francis will also dedicate a special year to the family. The "Amoris laetitia family," he announced at the Angelus on December 27, 2020. This year will begin on March 19, 2021 on the feast of St. Joseph, and will end in June 2022 at the World Meeting of Families in Rome.

Since 1994, a World Meeting of Families has been held every three years. An event that underlines the central importance of marriage and the family as the cornerstone of our life, society and Church. The most recent meeting was in 2018 in Dublin, two years after the publication of the Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia, on the theme of love in the family. The next World Meeting will take place in Rome with the theme "Family Love". Due to the pandemic, it has been postponed for one year and will be held in June 2022.

In preparation for the Year "Amoris Laetitia Family", the Dicastery for the Laity, Family, and Life has prepared the attached resource booklet with relevant information and suggestions for the special year which will begin on March 19, 2021 and end on June 26, 2022 on the occasion of the 10th World Meeting of Families in Rome. https://cdn.cyberimpact.com/clients/18699/public/72564cc7-3729-4318-4d38-dbd828cd5ebb/files/SCPD-2021-JANVIER-FEVRIER/Brochure_A4_UK_FlipBook.pdf?utm_source=Cyberimpact&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Messages-de-Francine---

POPE FRANCIS PROCLAIMS “YEAR OF ST JOSEPH”With the Apostolic Letter “Patris corde” (“With a Father’s Heart”), Pope Francis recalls the 150th anniversary of the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. To mark the occasion, the Holy Father has proclaimed a “Year of Saint Joseph” from 8 December 2020, to 8 December 2021. A daily prayer to St Joseph… and a challenge

In his letter, Pope Francis notes how, “Every day, for over forty years, following Lauds [Morning Prayer]” he has “recited a prayer to Saint Joseph taken from a nineteenth-century French prayer book of the Congregation of the Sisters of Jesus and Mary.” This prayer, he says, expresses devotion and trust, and even poses a certain challenge to Saint Joseph,” on account of its closing words: “My beloved father, all my trust is in you. Let it not be said that I invoked you in vain, and since you can do everything with Jesus and Mary, show me that your goodness is as great as your power.”At the conclusion of his Letter, he adds another prayer to St Joseph, which he encourages all of us to pray together:Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son; in you Mary placed her trust; with you Christ became man.Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage, and defend us from every evil. Amen.

In his recent encyclical, Fratelli Tutti, Pope Francis calls upon us to live the love that would make us “one great family, where all of us can feel at home”; a love that “exudes compassion and dignity.” (Fratelli Tutti, 62.)With the entire human family suffering from COVID-19, the Share Lent campaign invites us to share love and express solidarity with our sisters and brothers in the Global South, whose vulnerabilities are being exacerbated by the pandemic. Remembering the inherent dignity of all human beings, let us heed the Pope’s reminder that “justice and solidarity, are not achieved once and for all; they have to be realized each day.” (Fratelli Tutti,

RE: Development and Peace – Caritas Canada’s Share Lent 2021 campaign

Dear people of faith,

We hope this letter finds you well and pray that the new year proves more peaceful than the one past.

For over 50 years, Development and Peace has been organizing its Share Lent campaign during the period of Lent. This time of preparation for the celebration of Easter is an opportunity for our organization to raise awareness among parishioners on issues of international solidarity and invite them to practice almsgiving, especially on the Fifth Sunday of Lent, by donating to the special collection for Development and Peace. This collection helps our partners meet the immediate and sustained needs of some of our poorest sisters and brothers through over 100 projects in 30 countries of the Global South.

This year’s campaign theme, Share Love, Share Lent, is inspired by the message of love and social fraternity in Pope Francis’s encyclical, Fratelli Tutti. Through this campaign, Canadian Catholics will discover how the work of Development and Peace is anchored in Catholic Social Teaching and how we can heed the Pope’s call for solidarity and love for our neighbour.

The current pandemic has forced us to adapt our campaign to new realities, including temporary church closures and limited resources. We invite you to put the included poster up in your parish to promote the campaign. Other Share Lent materials and resources will be made available for download at devp.org, starting Ash Wednesday. These rich and dynamic resources will include an interactive solidarity calendar and weekly online activities to bring the campaign to life.

Thank you for helping us spread the Share Lent message and for encouraging your parish community to donate on Solidarity Sunday (March 21). If you require envelopes for the collection in your parish, please write to [email protected] and specify the quantity required and whether you would like envelopes with or without a return address.

This year, some local authorities may forbid congregation or only allow reduced-capacity gatherings. If this is the case for you, please let your parishioners know that they can donate online at devp.org/sharelent, by mailing a cheque to the address at the bottom of this letter or by calling 1 888 234-8533.

For additional help, please contact your local animator (see bit.ly/3m2rWRX for contact information).

Thank you for participating in Share Lent 2021. Please accept our best wishes for health, love and fraternity in the New Year.

Yours sincerely,

Kelly Di Domenico

ST. THOMAS À BECKET PARISH PRESENTS A VIRTUAL LENTEN PARISH MISSION

Join Bishop Robert Barron in this revealing presentation as he sheds light on the seven deadly sins - pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, avarice and lust - those great spiritual blocks that inhibit our relationship with God and others - and the antidote to them, the seven lively virtues.

Bishop Barron uses Dante's Divine Comedy to expose these sinful patterns in our lives and show how they are effectively counteracted by the cultivation of virtue through the development of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This fascinating journey shows the path that God has designed to lead us to health, happiness, and holiness.

A VIRTUAL LENTEN RETREAT WITH FR. RAYMOND LAFONTAINE, E.V.WHEN TOMORROW COMES: WALKING THE LENTEN JOURNEY FROM DEATH TO

RESURRECTION WITH JEAN VALJEAN

In a recent series of interviews, published as LET US DREAM: THE PATH TO A BETTER FUTURE, Pope Francis challenges us to look to the kind of world which will emerge from the pandemic through which we are living. He invites us to use this crisis as a precious opportunity to learn to see clearly, to choose well, and to act rightly.

Ever since its publication as a novel in 1862 – and into popular culture through the 1985 stage musical and 2012 film – the story of Jean Valjean as told in Les Misérables is filled with powerful parallels to the journey from death to Resurrection which we as Christians are invited to follow in the Lenten season. Through his interactions with the unforgettable characters we have come to know as Javert, the Bishop, Fantine, Thenardier, Cosette, and Marius, we see Jean Valjean grow in his ability response to God’s grace with compassion and love, even when confronted with law and judgment, with situations of human misery anddeprivation.

As we walk with Christ through a broken and hurting world, may we be inspired to journey with compassion and grace – dreaming our dreams, reaching out to others in love, knowing that there is truly “a life about to start when tomorrow comes!”

Join us on Saturday, March 13 from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. EST via the platform Zoom. The event is free; advanced registration required.

Through games, reflection and art, we will follow Jesus on his journey through Lent to the Cross and the Resurrection. Through meaningful games, prayer and creativity, families will discover their identity as a Domestic Church, a privileged place where faith is experienced and celebrated. No artistic experience is required.
