DRUG AWARENESS SOCIETY

ORIENTATION AND REGISTRATION OF THE SOCIETY

The Drug De-Addiction Society of GCCBA organized its first orientation session within the premises to mark the beginning. The event held on Sept.10, 2014 saw numerous students gathered as audience who were eager to contribute their bit towards the noble cause. Faculty members of the society also graced the occasion.

The session began by a ppt presentation by Gagandeep Singh of B.Com-II who welcomed the students by giving them a glimpse of what the society consists of, the highlights of what ‘drug addiction’ stands for, as well as enlisted the activities that took place in the previous session. This was followed by a lecture by Dr. Manoj Kumar, convener of the society who along with the apprising the students of the society envisioned a mission to make it reach the pinnacle of success. He asked students to become aware of their surroundings, narrated innumerable life experiences, keeping the audience engulfed. Apart from that, he also laid down the activities that were to follow in this session. Right from organizing slogan and poster making competitions to designating ‘students ambassadors’ of the society. The event concluded with the students getting a glimpse of the society, thereby widening their horizons and instilling a sense of responsibility within.

SLOGAN WRITING AND LOGO DESIGNING COMPETITION

The Drug De-Addiction Society organized a ‘Slogan Writing’ and ‘Logo Making Competition’ which was held in the College Premises on 15 th Nov.,2014 at 10.00 a.m. on the theme of ‘Drug De-Addiction’. 15 participants took part in the event.

Results of logo designing and slogan writing competition which was held on 15 th nov. were announced by the panel of judges headed by convener Dr Manoj Kumar. ‘VADA-Victory against Drug Abuse’ was selected as the final name for the society.

DRUG AWARENESS DAY IN NSS CAMP

The members of the ‘Drug Awareness Society’ had arranged for some documentaries on Drug Awareness in order to make the NSS volunteers aware of the destruction being caused due to Drug Addiction. The first documentary named “The Glut” presented the poor condition of Punjab due to drug consumption and also the destruction being caused to the families. The second documentary named “The Secret-2 The Compass” presented the ways in which one can change and lead a better life. Witnessing Punjab’s condition was breath taking while the other documentary was a silver lining. Then the volunteers and the NSS members were served with the lunch followed by a nukad-natak on “Drug Awareness” presented by the students of our college. Thereafter the students were asked to fill up a questionnaire which revealed the personality of every person. Then there was an interactive session by Dr. Manoj Bhambu, the convenor of the Drug Awareness Society in which the volunteers were told about their personalities based on the questionnaire they had filled up.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM

On 21st Jan.,2015 A Program on Drug De-Addiction was organised in collaboration with the workers of ABVP party. The objective behind the program was to condemn drugs. Members of the ABVP party in collaboration with GCCBA-Drug DeAddiction Society burnt an effigy of Drug Mafia’s for their alleged role in ruining the youth of the country. The agitating members raised slogans against spreading of drugs in society and the youth becoming its direct victims. The program was marked with the inspiring speech of Dr Manoj Kumar. Gautam Joshi(Chandigarh ABVP executive) also addressed the members of our society and told our members about the harmful effects of drugs. They have taken an oath to aware youth against drugs through print and electronic media.

TALK ON DRUG AWARENESS

On 23rd Jan., 2014 Dr. Neelu, Vice President of Amercian Airlines talked on the issue of Drug Awareness. She shared her views on reasons behind drug addiction in teenagers and youth. She compared the issue of drugs in India and US. She motivated students to abstain from the menance. She carried out an interactive session throughout.
