Adrienne Salinger also took a series of photographs on the topic “In my Room” in which she took photographs of teenagers in the only environment they can call their own; their bedroom. “In My Room: Teenagers in Their Bedrooms is more than a project capturing fashion and trends, It’s a social commentary on human life”. 20th April

The most important thing is that you complete the Photoshoots as these will be essential for your progress when you return.

Decide which images are your best shots from your previous Identity coursework photoshoot (set previously as Lockdown work before the Easter holiday). If you cannot print them- make a note of the file name, leave a space for them and explain what makes them your best shots using photography keywords.

Can you refine the photoshoot in any way? Improve the composition / lighting / background etc.

Complete a refined Photoshoot for your Identity coursework idea. We will use these photoshoots to create a first Media Trial for Identity.

If you are able to create a first Media Trial for Identity. You could use either Photoshop (if you have it at home) or print (if you have a printer) your best shots and manipulate them in some way to create a response to your topic & Artist. For example, you could cut out text and stick it onto your Photo to create a message in a Barbara Kruger style.

Evaluate how successful you think your trial is (if you were able to create it) and what you would do to develop it further on your return.

Adrienne Salinger: Joe H. smiles feebly at the camera. He finds it hard to secure a job because of his hair, but he won’t compromise his individuality. People think I am on drugs because of my appearance. But I’m not.

John Thackwray

Research the work of John Thackwray & Adrienne Salinger. Choose one of these 2 photographers and complete an analysis of their work using Photography Keywords. Try to include information on what you like about the work and elements that you might like to use in our own.

4th May Plan a Photoshoot in response to either John Thackwray or Adrienne Salinger. You will need to use the self-timer feature on your mobile phone.

Consider the composition of your shot. How will you show your identity through your environment? Which objects will you have around you as a main feature? What story do they tell? Which possessions are important to you and make you an individual? Where in your room will you position yourself? Why? What does this tell us about you? How will you try to get across your personality?

Complete a photoshoot on a digital camera or using your mobile phone. Use self-timer to ensure you are in the shot. This may take some time and experimentation to get the composition right.

Which photographs are your best shots? Explain which images are your best shots- even if you cannot print them. Make a note of the images and then explain why you have chosen these as your best shots.

Can you refine / improve the images in any way?

11th May Identity: What do my possessions say about me?

Look at the images by Photographer Jason Travis on this link:http://www.jasontravisphoto.com/persona /

Research the Artists work and analyse one of his images using keywords. Then plan a response to Jason Travis using a sketch.

You do not have to have an image of yourself with the objects, it could be just the objects themselves. Think about how you could creatively photograph a person’s possessions. It could be the possessions of someone in your family or your own possessions. Whichever objects you decide to photograph, should tell a story about the person who owns them.

If you are considering taking a photograph of someone else’s possessions, interview them about which objects are important to them and why. Which background will you need to use? What will be the main focus? Do you need to use framing? Specific lighting?

18th May Apply what you have learnt about composition to create a response to Jason Travis exploring People, Possessions and place. Complete a Photoshoot exploring composition- remember be creative and tell a story with the objects.

Which photographs are your best shots? Explain which images are your best shots- even if you cannot print them. Make a note of the images and then explain why you have chosen these as your best shots.

Can you refine / improve the images in any way?

WK: 1st June-15th June 15th JUNE- ASSESSMENT: The Art department would like you to submit the Time Controlled piece below. Upload work on MILK.

Yr10 Photography Main Coursework- Identity: ASSESSMENT TASK

You were asked at the beginning of Lockdown to create a Mind Map of ideas relating to the theme of Identity. Once you had completed this, you needed to decide which area of identity you wanted to focus on. (For example- You might have chosen fashion- clothing stereotypes and what the clothes we wear say about us as a person)

You had to do some context research on your chosen idea, present some images that you liked connected with identity, and then research the three artists I provided- Martin O’Neil, Barbara Kruger & Shepard Fairey, choosing one to influence and inspire your own work.

You must have completed all these tasks -Mind map, Pinterest page of images linked with Identity, Context research, Artist Research, Photoshoot Plan, before you complete the task below. Task:1) Complete a photoshoot on your phone / with a digital camera for your

chosen idea linked to Identity (some of you may have already done this. If you have, you can submit a best shot from a shoot you have already done or develop your work further and complete another shoot)

2) Select your best shot from this shoot3) Submit your best shot from your Identity photoshoot using MILK and then

type a description to go with it which includes the following information:a. My chosen idea within the theme of identity is: (e.g. Clothing

stereotypes)

Page 4: williamedwards.org.uk  · Web viewPhotography - Year 10 Identity coursework (ALL WORK MUST BE . OF. A HIGH STANDARD!) 1)Identity coursework. Complete photoshoots for your Identity

b. In particular, I have decided to explore: (e.g. How the clothes we wear send powerful signals to our peers and strangers, projecting the self-image of us that we want to display).

c. The Artist I have chosen to influence my work is: (e.g. Barbara Kruger)

d. I have chosen this artist because: (I like her bold use of colour and graphic text to get the message across to the viewer. I like the directness of the models in the photographs and the way her images make you think).

e. I will try to use my artist influence to: (create an image that uses similar colours with bold text that interacts with my model).

f. I have chosen this image as my best shot because- use Photography keywords! (I like the use of black and white as it creates a dramatic effect. I also like the vantage point the image is taken from, it really makes the viewer focus on the clothes the model is wearing and their face. I am happy with the way the model fills the frame with the focus on the models expression)

g. To develop this further, I would like to: (use Photoshop to add text that surrounds the model, reminding the viewer of my message about clothing stereotypes. I would also increase the contrast of the black and white to make the image even more dramatic. I would add a colour to one aspect of the model- for example Red lips against the Black & White which is similar to Barbara Kruger’s style but also links with my message).

I will use the Photograph you submit and your description to complete an assessment. It will be clear from your description whether you have completed sufficient research on your theme. It will also help me to see which direction you have chosen for your coursework and allow me to provide feedback / next steps.

Grading Criteria (GCSE Grade 9-1) Grade 3-4: Some research has been completed. A photograph has been submitted which has a loose link to the chosen artist and theme. The photograph submitted shows evidence of some consideration of composition rules. The student is unclear in how to develop the work further.

Grade 5-6: A wide variety of research has been completed. The student has a solid well-thought out idea that they would like to explore. Photoshoots have been carefully planned to link to their theme and Artist. The Photograph submitted is creative and conveys their message in an imaginative way through the lens. Consideration of composition, lighting and vantage point have been observed. A clear idea of how to develop the photograph further is evident.

Grade 7-9: Extensive research has been completed. The student has a unique original idea which is thoughtfully linked to the theme and artist chosen. The Photograph submitted shows obvious skill and has taken into careful consideration composition, lighting, focus, aperture, vantage point and use of shapes within the frame. There is a clear idea of the direction they want to take their work in to develop the idea further and to evoke a response from the viewer. Please make sure you keep all photoshoots that you have competed whilst we have been in lockdown so that we can present them in your book when we return.

WKc 22nd June The Art department would like you to take time and reflect on the work that you have produced.

We have attached a Word Document called AQA Standardisation Example Sketchbook. (It may take a while to open). We would like you to compare your work to the work that has been marked BY AQA (Examining board).

The examples show Art and Photography. The marking explains how marks are given under AO1, AO2, AO3 and AO4. Each AO is marked out of 24. A final mark out of 96 has then been given. Students work have been shown as example so that you understand how the marks have been awarded. Look at the Grade boundaries below to see what grade each student has achieved.

Grade Boundaries

9- 818 - 747- 686- 615- 544- 473- 342- 211- 9

Take a look at your work that you have completed during lockdown. Start to make a comparison with your work and the example we have provided.

Are there any adjustments that you need to make? Is there enough evidence of thorough planning- research /thumbnail

sketches / photoshoot plans Have you taken enough photographs? Do your photoshoots show

evidence of refinement? Have you shown that you have tried different things with your subject- different vantage points / framing / alternative composition?

Do your photos show good range of skill? Have you tried to adapt your composition to link to your message? Tried different lighting, added depth, a different background?

Have you made reference to photographers and used their work and your context research to inspire your own photos?

Does your work show development? Does it get stronger? Is it obvious how your idea is evolving? Annotation is clear and explains your thought process.

Annotation The Art department have attached an Annotation help guideline. This is an important part (AO3) and should not be missed out. You do not need to annotate every bit of work.

29th June to 10th July Please continue to work back into sketchbook, and referring back to Annotation Guidance Sheet and AQA Standardisation Example Sketchbook.

I would like you to send us a video of your sketchbook. Turning the pages over slowly and recording what you have been up to, there will be no need to talk or explain. This would help us in the planning of what we need to provide when you are in Year 11. Please send your video to [email protected]. If you would like me to provide feedback, I will be able to phone you if you want this to happen state
