By Cheryl Zoucha I am sure many, if not all of you, have been asked this question by your children at one point or another. Maybe it was a difficult question to answer. Why does the Catholic Church require us to attend Mass each and every Sunday? Well, the Church, in all her wisdom, does have the answer. At our recent 2 nd grade parent sacrament meeting, Fr. Heithoff explained this so beautifully. He said there are three reasons why we must go to Mass each Sunday: 1. To gather together as a family of faith 2. To share the story 3. To break the bread Fr. Heithoff went on to compare these reasons with why we have any kind of family or friend gathering in our home. We meet as family at holidays and other special occasions to gather together, share our stories, and have a meal together. In this way, we give life to each other and keep memories alive. Likewise, we plan and organize friend gatherings for the same reasons. Jesus himself said, “Do this in memory of me” when he instituted the Eucharist at the Last Supper. He knew what we needed in order to keep His memory alive and to allow Him to give life to each of us. Each Sunday when we gather together as a Catholic community, listen to the readings (His story of salvation for us), and share in the Eucharistic meal, Jesus Himself is giving life to us and we are remembering and pondering what He has done for us. Just as in a family or friendship, if we fail to gather together, share our stories, and share a meal on a consistent basis,

Why do we have to go to Mass?By Cheryl Zoucha

I am sure many, if not all of you, have been asked this question by your children at one point or another. Maybe it was a difficult question to answer. Why does the Catholic Church require us to attend Mass each and every Sunday? Well, the Church, in all her wisdom, does have the answer.

At our recent 2nd grade parent sacrament meeting, Fr. Heithoff explained this so beautifully. He said there are three reasons why we must go to Mass each Sunday:

1. To gather together as a family of faith2. To share the story 3. To break the bread

Fr.

Just as in a family or friendship, if we fail to gather together, share our stories, and share a meal on a consistent basis, our family unit and friendships can fall apart. In the same way, if we do not attend weekend Mass on a consistent basis, our relationship with Jesus will also crumble. Why do we go to Mass? We go to hear the Good News of Jesus along with our family of faith and to receive Jesus, our King and our Savior, in the Eucharistic feast. What can be better than that?

Lost & FoundThere are lots of sweatshirts on the Lost & Found cart by the school office. It is very important to mark all school sweatshirts. Please mark all coats, hats, gloves and boots also. It is so much easier to return items to the rightful owner if they have names or initials on the tag.

IllnessesThere has been an increase in influenza in our community. We have been very lucky at St. Bonaventure Elementary that the number of illnesses has been very low. Please encourage good hand washing techniques and coughing into the sleeve. If your child does show any signs of sickness (fever, achy, sore throat, etc.) please keep them home. With everyone’s help we can get through the flu season.

2nd Graders play a game of checkers at indoor

recess in the Social Hall.
