Greetings Hope U. C. C.:

Reflect – Renew – Restore – Refresh! An unending circle. That is what Easter is . . .We have several seasons in the church year that call us to pause . . . consider what’s going on. Take time to think . . . to possibly make some changes. Renew our commitment to our family (and to the church), but especially to Christ! Restore – return to our roots of Christian faith – refurbish our soul – make time for daily devotions, prayer, and church attendance. Refresh – pep up your life! Energize your spiritual journey. Our journey through Lent is continued. I have been called to reflect on my life, my service, and my faith journey. Not always easy. I have been called out of my comfort zone at times. The thought that comes to mind is: Easter is more than just one day in a year. The Easter Bunny does not just come out and deliver eggs and candy, and then crawl back in its hole. Easter is an “every Sunday” celebration, where we come together to receive the blessings of the cross and resurrection of Jesus – the forgiveness of sins and the certainty of eternal life with God. Easter is an “every day” celebration in which we live each day trusting in God through Christ, knowing that Jesus is “the resurrection and the life”.Scripture provides many examples of how to reflect – renew – restore – refresh! We have the women at the tomb who went out to witness – to tell others: Christ has risen! There are the first disciples who went back to their jobs and lived in the joy of Jesus’ resurrection while carrying out daily responsibilities. We are witnesses and participants in the resurrection of Jesus. We believe, we are baptized, we have the HOPE of eternal life. We have the joy of resurrection inside of us. LIVE in the JOY of the RESURRECTION! CHRIST HAS RISEN! HE HAS RISEN INDEED! ALLELUIA!

In the Love and Service of Christ,Pastor Darlene

PARISH BOARD MEETING MINUTESFebruary 13, 2019

X Susan Hahn X Russ Roper X Jeff Pfeiffer X Pastor Darlene Blocker

X Linda Siegel X Roxann Ealey X Ron Ealey X Brenda DribanX Kristin Kemmerer X Sherri Mogilski X Susan Trach

X = Present * = Absent + = notified, unable to attend

We began with an opening devotional and prayer presented by Linda Siegel at 7:04pm. OLD BUSINESS

Minutes: January 9, 2019 were reviewed and with motions made by Russ Roper and seconded by Sue Trach, they were accepted. In order to accommodate the Lenten season, the March board meeting is now Thursday, March 14th and the April board meeting is now Thursday, April 11th. This was voted on and passed by the board.

Treasurer’s Reports: For January 2019 were presented and discussed. Sherri reported we are $419.39 in the red, due to a large expense with the Fellowship Hall repairs, as well as the loss of one offering due to a weather-related church closure. With motions by Sue Hahn and seconded by Ron Ealey, the reports were accepted.

FOLLOW-UPS: Tree trimming and stump grinding: Jeff Pfeiffer said that the work that needs to be done is too

cumbersome for the troop to handle. So, the estimates were outlined by President Driban. It was agreed that Joe Lerch’s estimate was more cost effective, but we need to modify the proposed work. We will use the Smickley Fund (set up to maintain marquee sign). The fund will only cover the removal of the branch that is hanging over the marquee. This work is not to exceed $300. With a motion made by Roxann Ealey, and seconded by Sherri Mogilski it was approved. Russ Roper abstained.

Church By-laws & Constitution: re-typed by Kristin Kemmerer. Document was emailed to board members in January and will be reviewed/revised before a final printing occurs.

Fellowship Hall Renovations: Can we afford a new floor install? Many tiles are in disrepair and a floating floor could be installed over top. Jeff also replaced some light fixtures in Fellowship Hall. Jeff Pfeiffer will talk with Nathan and bring three (3) estimates concerning flooring to a future meeting.

Brochure: Russ presented the revised version tonight. Changes were given to Russ for a final draft.

NEW BUSINESS: Congregational Meeting: Scheduled for Sunday, February 24th, immediately following service.

It was announced on 2/10/19 and again on 2/17/19 by Pastor Darlene. Committee chairs will be available for questions and comments.

Mission Statement: Kristin will resend the by-laws and mission statement via email to board members before the next meeting.

Kemmerer Estate: The board went into Executive Session regarding the property. Volunteerism: Is a volunteer covered under our insurance policy? Sherri will review the

policy. Audit Committee: We need three (3) members to review 2018 financial documents.

Committee members cannot be on the board.STANDARD REVIEW OF REPORTS

Pastor’s Report: Pastor Darlene provided a report for January 9th through February 12th. Pastor Darlene proposed not holding a Maundy Thursday service due to poor attendance last year. It will be mentioned at the congregational meeting and discussed further. Roxann Ealey wanted to know who the Lenten speakers are for the upcoming season.

Pastoral Search Status: President Driban provided Jen Fassl a letter that we accept the church’s profile to be kept on file at the conference. Russ explained that once a potential minister shows interest in our church, we must decide as a church to send our whole profile to him/her. At this time, only a summary of our profile is available for review.

Church Committees:1. Altar Guild: none2. Blood Drive: Mitch will be moving the next drive to May. Shawn Kemmerer will be taking

over this endeavor in 2019.3. Deacons: Jean Roper and Donna Conto delivered lap blankets to shut-ins. 4. Finance : none5. Fundraising: Pocono Cheesecake Factory Sale profited $144. 6. Hospitality: none7. Memorial Funds: none8. Personnel: none9. Property: One out of two HVAV units above Fellowship Hall needs to be replaced. The

estimate from Fogel’s is over $6,800. Ron Ealey said that a service call (diagnosis) is under $150. This cost is usually deducted from cost of repairs. A crane will be needed to replace unit. Ron Ealey will have a discussion with Nathan Buck regarding this matter. The lawn mower is being sent out for servicing so it will be ready for spring. Fellowship Hall renovations are progressing.

OPEN FORUM Ms. Linda Siegel has volunteered to open next month’s meeting with a prayer. With no further

business to discuss, motions to adjourn by Russ Roper and Sue Hahn were made at 8:26 pm. Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2019. Kristin Kemmerer will send out e-mail/text reminders the night before our next meeting.

In God’s blessing and love, minutes are submitted by Kristin Kemmerer, Parish Board Secretary

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING MINUTESFebruary 24, 2019

The meeting was called to order by Russ Roper at 11:27 am. Pastor Darlene then lead a prayer of thanks and gratitude for those that serve in various ways here at Hope. Copies of the 2018 annual report were then distributed by the children. Congregational members had the opportunity to look over the document and ask questions at this time.

Committee Reports included:- Glenn and Caroline Altemose, representing the Food Bank, wanted to say thank you to

the supporting organizations and members for all the donations this past year. They also announced that Ken Lieberman would be retiring from his food bank volunteer position.

- Jen Fassl, representing the Fundraising Committee, reported profits from this past year’s fundraisers were down. She reminded the congregation that we should not be using funds from fundraisers to balance our budget, but that we should strive to use them for capital improvements, such as the HVAC unit or a new floor for Fellowship Hall. In addition, she reminded us that with the Morris family leaving, we would need help with future dinners and that we are trying some new ideas for fundraisers this year, not all of which require purchases to be made. Lastly, she stressed the importance of getting the word out about our church and trying to bring in new members. Ideas included offering Bible study, changing service times, and expanding the youth program.

- Jen Fassl, representing the Children’s Program (Sunday School), reported that the program is well-supported by the congregation. The children look to the elders as family, not just other members of the same church. She reminded the congregation that our annual Toy Bingo is what keeps the program funded, and that the Tacos and Bingo event is also a well-liked event that helps earn funds for Sunday School initiatives.

With motions made by Beth Kern-Skrapits and Mary Lynn Pfeiffer, the 2018 Annual Report was accepted.

With no further business to discuss, motions to adjourn were made by Jen Fassl and Caroline Altemose at 11:43 am.

In God’s blessing and love, minutes are submitted by Kristin Kemmerer, Parish Board Secretary
