Hi Grade 1 families! I hope you enjoy some of the new activities this week for learning at home. EVERY Day , try and do the following: Read for a minimum of 20 minutes (books, Raz Kids, Epic books, your own writing, Reading Eggs….just keep reading!) Write about something that interests you. It could be a poem, short story, song, essay, etc. Or you could keep a journal about what it is like to learn at home and the experiences you have. Get moving for a minimum of 30 minutes! Go for a walk or a run. Dance. Shoot pucks. Ride a bike. Practice yoga. Just get moving! Here are some additional activities that will help your child continue to learn. How many of the following activities can they do? Highlight or cross off the activities they do to track their progress. Try to do least one per day. Sky observations. Draw or write everything you see in the sky when you wake up, at lunch time, after dinner and when it is dark at night if your parents will let you stay up late. What do you notice changes? Make a Space fortune Teller . Watch how to fold it on this You-Tube link . Then write one of these words on each of the outside squares: sun, stars, moon, and planets. Flip it and write the names of different planets on the triangles. Then open it and write positive message on the diamond shape. Then tell someone their fortune. Design a rocket ship. Draw or build rocket to go to space. Write about the trip you will take in it. Where are you going? Who is going with you? What are you taking? What do you expect to find when you get there? Roll a math question - Use the cube template below to practice your hundreds chart. On one cube write 6 different numbers between 1 -100. On the second cube +1, - 1, + 10, -10, + 9, + 11. Roll the two dice. Start at the number you rolled and complete the math question on the second dice. Use either the nature hundreds chart you made last week or the Make a model of the Sun, Earth and Moon using the template below. The way the Earth moves around the sun is called an orbit. Does the moon orbit anything? What else orbits the sun? What would happen if Earth did not orbit the sun? Choice Board for June 1-5

Check out all the fun Storybots space songs on YouTube. Write about which song is your favourite. Remember good writing is clear and interesting.

Go to your Raz kids assignments and listen to the books on space. Try all the quizzes. Add what you learned to your KWL chart. Do you now have more questions to add to the wonder column?

What is a Solar Eclipse? Use the package Mrs. Christmann attached to the email to learn about Solar Eclipse.

Visit Mr. Carson’s YouTube video to learn a hand washing song to help you remember to wash your hands for 20

seconds.

Create a space themed sight word game with your words from your sight word folder.

Try find all the names on the planets on the word search below.

Make your own Space Stick. Cut the end off a pool noodle so when you hold it and stretch out your arm it total length is 2 m. Decorate your Space stick with space stickers or felts and use it to remember to stay in you a safe space.
