About the Competition

This WorldSkills UK competition is managed and sponsored by Coleg Cambria and will consist of three stages:● First Stage – Photographic Entry (Passive)● Second Stage – Heats● Third Stage - Final This stage of the competition is Photographic Entry (Passive).The theme is: “OUT OF THE BOX”

This stage of the competition is a passive stage. Successful competitors may be invited to compete at the UK regional. This competition is open to any entrants who are studying for an appropriate Level 2/3 Makeup qualification.

Competitors will be required to complete a Makeup design which reflects the theme OUT OF THE BOX.

To be successful in submitting your entry, you will need to provide the following information:

● A brief description, explaining your ideas that inspired your design

● Three aspects to your design; ○ Front Face○ Left Side Face○ Right Side Face

● One photograph for each aspect sized at 127mm x 178mm (5 inches x 7 inches) - it is important to note that if more than one photograph is submitted for each aspect, only one photograph for each aspect will be considered for judging.

● Mood board (as a separate document/attachment)

Photographs should not be digitally edited or enhanced and should be competitors own work.

Please submit photographic entries either by email or post to reach us by Friday 15th May 2020. Judging will take place immediately and competitors informed on Friday 5th June.

Rules for Passive Heat:

Makeup can cover any part of the face neck and décolletage. All make up mediums can be used, as long as it is applied hygienically and safely i.e. airbrushing,

water colour, cream make up etc. Bald caps and prosthetics must not be used.  Costumes should be used to enhance the makeup look. (heats and finals only)

Hair should be styled to match the design and theme. NB for regional and national heats, props can be used to enhance the theme during presentation, but must not hinder the model’s movement, ability to eat, drink or use the bathroom. At heats, models may need to stay in costume for a minimum of 2 hours (e.g. models must be able to get on / off stage or presentation area easily and unaided).

Competitors taking part in this competition should be able to demonstrate:

● Professional demeanour

● Safe working practices

● Professional attitude

● Effective interaction with the client

● High level of skill and dexterity

● Management of time allocation

● Ergonomic working methods

Marking and Assessment

Assessment will be through:• Observation

• Inspection of completed tasks

NB: Competitors who achieve the highest marks in the passive stage will be invited to compete at the UK regional heats. Coleg Cambria will inform competitors following verification of results, shortly after the passive stage has taken place.

For all objective criteria, the following measurement will be used:

Objective assessment will be used whenever the process or product is correct or incorrect, complete or incomplete, against a given benchmark that the judges can agree on (0/1). It is used whenever it is possible to take a measurement of some kind.

For all judgement criteria, the following marking scale will be used/ or a variation:

0 – Does not meet industry standard1 – Meets minimum industry standard2 – Meets industry standard3 – Exceeds industry standard

A panel of judges has been selected from a range of industry, college and training provider representatives. The judges’ decisions will be moderated and quality assured by Worldskills UK

Competition Rules

A completed registration is an indication that you have agreed to the following:

a) WorldSkills UK Competition Rulesb) WorldSkills UK Terms and Conditions c) Coleg Cambria competition rules (as stated below) will apply during live competitions.

Conduct for competitors during live competitions:

1. Competitors must set up and participate in the competition on their own. At no point should accompanying tutors, colleagues or others be in the competition area before or during the competition. Models will enter the room at the start time of the competition.

2. Competitors must be accompanied by a tutor or college representative for support and supervision.

3. Competitors must not bring any ornaments to decorate their work area, e.g. flowers, vases etc.4. Competitors must ensure that they keep to timings set by judges at the beginning of the

competition, extra time will not be allocated to those who are not ready for each task.5. Competitors should be dressed appropriately, that would be acceptable within commercial

enterprises. 6. Competitors must cover all logos and other items that identify their colleges or other

organisations of origin.7. Competitors who arrive late will not receive additional time.8. Competitors will start and finish work as instructed by the judges.9. Competitors must make sure they are set up and prepared for the competition as they will not be

able to get products or tools from outside the competition area once the competition has begun.10. During the competition competitors should not disturb other students/teams or speak to

members of the public.11. Competitors, models and accompanying college representatives should be aware that following

competition end, there will be a period of 'actual' judgement. Please consider this when making return travel arrangements.

12. Any competitor who wishes to leave the area during the competition must seek the permission of the judges.

13. If there is a power stoppage, breakdown of machinery or accident, the competitors must act according to the instructions of the judges.

14. Competitors who break or damage their own equipment during the competition will not receive any additional time.

15. Competitors will be required to bring their own suitable model on the day.16. All models will be checked prior to start of the competition. Any model who is found to be

unsuitable will incur penalties for the competitor.17. Competitors are responsible for supplying all products and equipment, including towels, bins,

PPE and lamps plus extension leads. All equipment must be PAT tested with a current certificate.

18. Hosts will however provide a table and two chairs.19. Where a competitor is observed working in an unsafe manner s/he will be stopped and not

permitted to continue unless willing to follow the judges' directions.

All electrical equipment must be PAT tested and labelled before using at the competition and all the supporting equipment must be fit for purpose.

Please ensure that you are familiar with these documents ahead of any competition activity.

If a competitor has a complaint, it is advised that this be discussed with the competition organising partner, lead judge or WorldSkills UK representative. If this is not possible, please refer to section 11 of the Complaints and Appeals procedure in the WorldSkills UK competition rules which must be used.
