Reflection on 2020 poster!

When I was planning my poster I had a clear idea of how I wanted my poster to look, I wanted to make it look like an action poster with me in the middle, Neo and Sofyan on the side. The reason why I had this idea is because my character is the only girl out of the two boys and my character has an important role in the movie and I wanted to stand myself out. We took a few shots of the idea of me in the middle however I did not use them for my final project because the pictures did not come out as well as expected.

These were my original idea for my poster we tried different poses and angles, however it just was not suitable when I was trying to create my poster, there was no space for the titles and subtitles, there was a little background colour so we could not really blend the words into the background because it shows a lot of us also I was not happy with the lighting. There was also a lot of distance between Sofyan and me and we didn’t realise until we imported them, so we could not use

these.

To make sure we had plenty of pictures to choose from we took some pictures in different poses and ways, for example we took some pictures in turn of who was going to be in the middle, the reason why we choose to do it this way is when we came to the conclusion of how we wanted to create our

poster we would try the pictures we would consider that looks nice and if it doesn’t work we would try a different picture.

I

was considering of using one of these pictures if we didn’t change our

concept of the idea of ‘Valentine and Professor’ having a love chemistry. The original idea was for these two characters to have a connection between each other, that’s why we tested out a few pictures with these two characters making eye contact. However all though the concept has changed and now Valentine and Lee have a connection throughout the movie the professor could be catching feelings towards Valentine which is another reason we tested out to use these pictures, to also confuse the audience because they would know its Valentine and Lee who have the romantic connection, with Lee in the middle could represent some sort of battle for Valentine. However we did not use these because we did not want to give in that surprise straight away.

For my poster I decided to use this shot, the reason why I chose this because it contains a mixture of signs that would capture the audience’s attention. Considering Lee and Valentine have a romantic

bond the eye contact would really mean a lot of things, the way they look at each other could lead on to audiences asking questions like would they be together or is it just a fling?

The fact that the Professor is in between them could also lead to a majority of questions, like is he between them to protect them from danger, or because they are up to something, or maybe because he’s jealous of their relationship. These sort of questions would capture the audience’s attention and would make them want to watch the movie. The lighting of this shot is also good, the red from my clothes and lipstick really stands out, and there’s plenty of room for a title and subtitles. When I tested this on Photoshop it came up clear so I used it. My new idea was to have ‘2020’ written big and red and I wanted to put this title behind Sofyan so it looks like the characters were in front of the title. At first I struggled to do this because I kept cutting layers out, I watched a YouTube video to help me and I eventually succeeded. I also had the idea of putting our names near to us so the audience knows what our names are.

This was my first attempted of my poster, I knew I wanted to add a background to it but I was not sure what to use, this version of my poster looked really plain, it didn’t look to eye appealing. So I decided to use a picture of an equation and just add a lot of layer to create it into a background.
