Director’s Commentary Script Music Video, Magazine Advertisement and Album Cover Hello, my name is Daisy, and I am the Director for Reloaded’s promotional Music video. The video is inspired by many artists such as The Who, The Beatles, Lenny Kravitz etc. and the video has a documentary style inspired by videos such as Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters. When I showed the video to Reloaded’s target audience, I as the director gained a lot of feedback from the audience. This enabled me to get an insight from the viewers for me to then judge what they liked and what they didn't like based upon the videos’ concept, narrative and overall presentation. A significant aspect I learnt was that the video matched the genre of the music as well as the editing which contrasted with the overall performance of the video however I believe there is room for improvement for example, some of the shots were edited very fast which some people did not like however the majority were pleased including myself and the band. I think the combination of the video, advert and digipak is highly effective as a package. The reasons for this is that a lot of work was put into the video to make the editing stand out with the given scenario which was of course a rehearsal room equipped with a loud rock band. The combination of the video works well together with the magazine advertisement and CD cover as Reloaded have influences within the music video which I applied onto the CD cover and magazine advertisement. I achieved this by working on the editing in Final Cut Pro to create a black and white effect however due to the quality of the video I decided not to do so, but I did apply the black and white effect to the CD cover and partly on the advert. As an editor and director I had the Equ Magazine

Hello, my name is Daisy, and I am the Director for Reloaded’s promotional Music video. The video is inspired by many artists such as The Who, The Beatles, Lenny Kravitz etc. and the video

has a documentary style inspired by videos such as Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters.

When I showed the video to Reloaded’s target audience, I as the director gained a lot of feedback from the audience. This enabled me to get an insight from the viewers for me to then judge what they liked and what they didn't like based upon the videos’ concept, narrative and overall presentation. A

significant aspect I learnt was that the video matched the genre of the music as well as the editing which contrasted with the overall performance of the video however I believe there is room for improvement for example, some of the shots were edited very fast which some people did not like however

the majority were pleased including myself and the band.

I think the combination of the video, advert and digipak is highly effective as a package. The reasons for this is that a lot of work was put into the video to

make the editing stand out with the given scenario which was of course a rehearsal room equipped with a loud rock band. The combination of the video works well together with the magazine advertisement and CD cover as Reloaded have

influences within the music video which I applied onto the CD cover and magazine advertisement.

I achieved this by working on the editing in Final Cut Pro to create a black and white effect however due to the quality of the video I decided not to do so, but I did apply the black and

white effect to the CD cover and partly on the advert. As an editor and director I had the responsibilities to make sure all the combinations were effective and worked hard to make the

whole package work well together. The mise-en-scene played a huge part to make the combination work because the video I produced matches the

style of the CD artwork (musically and time period wise).

I edited the video on Final-Cut Pro which enabled me to cut, edit, and transform the video to what it is now. I used filters

on most of the shots, because I felt they were too dark to begin with. I cut most of the shots, and edited shots to sync

up the audio to the moving images. I also used Photoshop to edit the magazine Ad and the album artwork. I used effects to

make the back and front of the album cover look similar. I used techniques such as slow motion, annotations and colour

changes.

The video uses similar shots and effects to match the micro elements of a rock music video. The mise en scène for example includes shots within a rehearsal room with their equipment

surrounding them showing their enthusiasm to pursue their musical talents whilst they ‘jam’, I also included outside shots of each band member walking to and inside the rehearsal room for example, my dad (drummer of Reloaded) was filmed from the chest downwards to

capture him walking whilst holding a pair of

drum sticks, in the video I used slow motion to sync his movements to the rhythm of the music

and to add effect. Most of it was shot in a low key lighted room,

(chiaroscuro) which in my opinion follows the codes and conventions of a typical rock music video for example, The Pretender by the Foo

Fighters where they capture the band below a light flickering on and off during the crescendos throughout. The lighting in the video is significant to making the video feel more of a rock and roll genre promotional music video, with flashing lights, bright glowing headlights on the lead

singer and shots of the PA system and Amplifiers.
