Weekly Assignments *All assignments are tentative and subject to change 3rd Quarter AP English Literature and Composition – HARLINGEN HIGH SCHOOL SOUTH 2019-2020 OUTSIDE READING: Students will begin Hamlet by William Shakespeare this week. Act 1 will be read in class this week. However, the majority of the remaining acts (Acts 2, 3, 4, and 5) will be read (assignments included) outside of the classroom as homework. Quizzes will be given during class for Acts 1&2, Acts 3&4, and Act 5 followed by an exam. NOTICE: SAT Vocabulary Sentences #136-150 Directions: Using words 136-150, you will create sentences for each term, 15 sentences total – Thursday, 02/20/20 on CANVAS Week 24 (02/10 – 02/14) CONCLUDE: Unit 5: Poetry II - Students will encounter both closed and open poetic structures and will have multiple opportunities to practice recognizing structural patterns and analyzing the relationship between poetic structure and meaning. This unit is the perfect context to remind students that there is no single “correct” interpretation. Students will be given opportunities to compare their claims about an interpretation of a text to others’ claims and to evaluate whether the reasoning and evidence of another’s argument justify an alternative interpretation of the text.
