OUTSIDE READING: Students will begin Hamlet by William Shakespeare this week.
Act 1 will be read in class this week. However, the majority of the remaining acts (Acts 2, 3, 4, and 5) will be read (assignments included) outside of the classroom as homework. Quizzes will be given during class for Acts 1&2, Acts 3&4, and Act 5 followed by an exam.

Week 24 (02/10 – 02/14)
CONCLUDE: Unit 5: Poetry II - Students will encounter both closed and open poetic structures and will have multiple opportunities to practice recognizing structural patterns and analyzing the relationship between poetic structure and meaning. This unit is the perfect context to remind students that there is no single “correct” interpretation. Students will be given opportunities to compare their claims about an interpretation of a text to others’ claims and to evaluate whether the reasoning and evidence of another’s argument justify an alternative interpretation of the text.

In this unit, students will continue to practice the interpretation of poetry, with a focus on the ways word choice, imagery, and comparisons can reveal meanings and shape interpretations of the text. Accordingly, poems chosen for this unit will provide students with opportunities to identify, understand, and interpret imagery, extended metaphors, personification, and allusion.
