Hello again Fourth class! Hope that everyone is still keeping safe and well! This week I would just like to say a BIG well done to Eve Devlin, Aoife Boyes, Charlie Butterly & Rachel Hanna for their creative writing ‘We are Writers’ pieces they uploaded this week. The standard is AMAZING and both Ms Lynch and I are very proud of each of you! For those who didn’t get their entries up yet I have decided to allocate one more Friday’s English lesson to ‘We are Writers’ so you can get it finished. Ms Lynch informed me that the official closing date for entries to the booklet is the 29 th of May, so please do not stress or worry about this work if you are struggling with it as you can email it right up to the closing date. Send your entries to: [email protected] This week I’ve included a quiz for you to test your knowledge and skills of what you have been learning during the week! The link to the quiz will be at the end of Friday’s work. See how many you can get right! Also this week you have been invited to take part in another quiz created by Ms Lynch especially for 4 th class. You can find a link to it in the 4 th class English learning support doc. Sounds like fun! Make sure that you are signed in to ‘Mangahigh’ (some of the class are already signed up so well done to you!) as I have set some maths activities for you to take part in this week on addition and subtraction. Keep following the active schools whole school PE programme which can be found on the Active School Flag section of our website. You can also keep following Joe Wicks (The Body Coach TV) 1

Irish This week we are going to continue our focus on reading.

Read the first paragraph aloud at least twice. Take your time and use it as an opportunity to learn new words and build your vocabulary. Remember that reading is a great way to increase your knowledge and understanding of a language as you already know from reading English texts. The same applies for Irish!

Make a list of some new words you’ve learnt.

Tip: You can use the link at the bottom of the lesson to look up words you don’t understand.

TuesdayMaths: Operations continued.

With Brackets When you see a sum and it has brackets, you should start inside the bracket.

16

Page 17: €¦  · Web viewFor those who didn’t get their entries up yet I have decided to allocate one more Friday’s English lesson to ‘We are Writers’ so you can get it finished

Example: 12 – (4 + 3) = _____Do the bracket first…… 4 + 3 = 7Now that we know the answer to the bit inside the bracket, we can rewrite the sum as 12 – 7 = ___The answer is 5.

Now complete Activity A belowTip: Remember to always complete inside the brackets first.

Without Brackets

Note: Remember that when a question has both addition and subtraction and there are no brackets, start at the left and work your way across.

For example: 7 – 1 + 2 = 6 + 2 = 8

Complete activity B below

Extra activity: Can you solve the 2 Cross Number Nets below? Check example before you try.

Maths: Operations continued…

Yesterday we learned how to deal with using brackets when we have a sum containing both addition and subtraction.

Today we are focusing on multiplying and dividing as we continue to understand operations.

For a warmup, try the Mental Maths Train and Focus on multiplication and division activities when playing the game. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/mental-maths-train

Now let’s get practising!

Complete the following:

Note: For Q.3 don’t forget you can add your zero straight away (no need for long multiplication).
