Graiguenamanagh Rowing Club

Neptune Regatta

The Graiguenamanagh Rowing Club took part in the Neptune Regatta held at Islandbridge, Dublin last weekend the 7th April. This is a well-regarded rowing event attended by clubs from across the country. The race itself is over a kilometre in length and the competition is fierce as crews’ line up side by side giving it their all to sprint to the end.

This year, the Graiguenamanagh Rowing Club sent a mixture of crews that consisted of junior men and women crews as well as an adults women’s crew. Training this year for the event was incredibly challenging as high water levels and snow prevented crews from training together consistently on the water. Although there was some exceptional performances across the board from the club, it was the women’s junior 18 eight (crew consisted of Grainne Harris, Rachel Doyle, Robin Bolger, Keelin Connolly, Meghan Darcy, Aoife Harris, Rachel Roberts, Ali Flood and Cox Nancy Roberts) and the women’s junior crew that competed in the club 2 quad race (crew consisted of Grainne Harris, Meghan Darcy, Keelin Connolly, Rachel Doyle and Cox Rachel Roberts) that took home gold medals for the club. Although the conditions on the day which involved fast flowing waters, wind and infrequent but heavy showers presented a challenge, it did not prevent the junior 8 from wining in the final against Colaiste Iognaid RC or the club 2 quad from wining against Kings Hospital RC.

The success of the junior women’s crews has been the accumulation of hard work and dedication over recent months and even years with coaches Brian Roberts, James Vine Chatterton and Andrew Hennessy supporting the junior women to reach their full potential.

The club look forward to a full season of racing events over the coming months and aim for more success along the way.

We hope to see plenty of support in Dr. Tierney Park at 6.30pm on Saturday when out junior hurlers take on Blacks/whites in the 2nd Round of the JHL. Both teams lost their first round games so will be doing their upmost to secure the points on this occasion.
