STAGE 2: ARTS IN PRACTICELEAVING A MARKTopic 4: Public Art
Assessment Type 1 – PRODUCT 50% Two Products and two folios (10 A3 pages & 1000words each)
Trinity College has allocated a limited number of spaces for public art murals. This may include:
- Senior classroom doors and a number of walls inside and outside the building
You will be asked to respond to a set brief that has been approved by Mr. Holmes.
Each product must be accompanied by a 10 page Folio of 1000 words documenting your creative process.
Assessment Type 2: INVESTIGATION 20%
Complete two 1000 word investigations including artist ideas and techniques as well as a critique of their work:
1. Visual Arts in a Social-cultural context: Using examples of visual artworks, discuss how visual artists have responded to changes in their society
2. Methods and Media: Explain how visual artists integrate a variety of media in the making their work
Include a detailed and varied bibliography of primary and secondary sources eg. Exhibition visits, books, reviews, institution and artists’ websites, journal articles etc. No Wikipedia references. Document sources correctly – see student planner.

Assessment Type 3: PRACTICAL SKILLS 30% EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT
Provide 12 pieces of evidence that demonstrate personal exploration, development and application of skills specific to murals. This must also include must your analysis and evaluative response. (2000 words or 12 minute recorded oral).
Explore techniques associated with mural painting:
For example:
- Stencilling (Banksy, Joshua Smith etc…) - Freehand aerosol (Robo etc…)- Paste ups (Peter Drew) - Traditional mural techniques (Harring
etc..)- Relief work (Brian Robinson) - Interactive pieces (Before I die
