Full-length windows are 2.1 m high and half-length windows are 1.5m

high

Doors are 0.8 metres wide and 2 metres high

All hallways are 1 metre wide

13.Calculate the following:

a. Perimeter of the house in metres.

b. Area of the house in square metres.

c. Area of the hallways.

14.The house is going to have both carpet and tiles. The areas to be tiled

include the bathroom, toilet, laundry, ensuite, kitchen and hallways. The

remainder of the house will be carpeted.

a. Calculate the tiled area in square metres.

b. Calculate the carpeted area in square metres.

c. How many tiles will you need if they are 200mm × 200mm?

d. How much will the tiles cost if they are $2.50 per tile?

e. How much will the carpet cost if it is $55.54 per square metre?

15.You have some bricks left over from the house and decide you will include

16.Complete a scale diagram of your house on your block of land.

Block of land is 20 metres × 40 metres

Your back yard is larger than your front yard.

You have both lawn, garden area and paving in the front and back

yard.

A concrete driveway runs to the garage.

You will also have a BBQ, bin enclosure, water tank (2.1 metres

17.As our climate is changing, we have less water available to use. You have

decided to purchase a water tank to catch rainwater off the roof of your

house and garage.

a. Draw a sketch of your water tank.

b. Calculate the volume of the tank in litres. (Remember: 1 litre =

1000cm3)

18.The pool that you are installing in your back yard is shaped as follows:

a. It is important to know how many litres of water your pool can

hold for filling and chemicals. Calculate the volume of your pool in

litres.

b. Using the volume of water held in the tank you have in your

garden, how many tanks full of water would be required to fill your

pool?

CONSTRUCTION

Choose the most appropriate materials (such as icy

pole sticks, cardboard, paper, etc) to build a scale

model of your house including the front and back

yards. You will need to decide on a suitable scale

to build the house to show enough detail and still

be practical and inexpensive to build.
