The purpose of this communication is to update on community activities that have taken place in Autumn half term 2018 and to remind us of the events scheduled for the rest of this term up to Christmas 2018.

1 st Ackworth Boys Brigade & Ackworth School working together to support National Re-cycling Week (24 th -30 th September 2018)

During this half term, the 1st Ackworth Boys Brigade have had re-cycling as their project theme to coincide with National re-cycling week in the UK (which took place from the 24th-30th September 2018).

The Boys Brigade approached us to work with them on this project, due to the school’s involvement in the Spring Clean 2018.

We were delighted to be able to purchase for them the litter pickers that they needed to undertake their project, which could not be loaned due to H&S reasons.

The boys successfully achieved their aim to learn about the environmental

Friends of Fitzwilliam Station

Jackie Tagg kindly attended a meeting of the friends of Fitzwilliam station to represent Ackworth School as one of the interested parties in the Fitzwilliam Station art competition. The meeting took place on Tuesday 25th September 2018 at 3pm at the Kinsley & Fitzwilliam Learning & Community centre.

Northern railways have authorised for Fitzwilliam Station bridge to have the 16 wheels, designed by the local community.

Sue Armitage and Jackie Tagg have volunteered to participate in the competition and will be responsible for the design of two of the wheels at the station.

The timings of the competition are to be confirmed by the friends of Fitzwilliam station, once funding has been obtained for the project.

In addition, there are plans to have notice boards on the station platforms advertising local community events and businesses (our school!). It is estimated that over 300 people per day who use the station would see these advertisements.
