Maths – Year 1 – Summer 1 Half Term Below is a list of objectives that we would have been focussing on this half term in our maths lessons. Please complete some of the different activities for each of the objectives in green. For each section you will find links to clips and games, ideas of activities and there will also be resources/tasks for you to download under the year 1 heading on the website. If you have any questions, please direct them to your child’s teacher when they call you and we will do all we can to support you. White Rose Maths have some super videos that explain many aspects of the maths we are learning in year 1. You can find the videos and some of the activities we have selected here: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ Area of maths & objective/s Activities to support the objective Place value and ordering Count in multiples of 2, 5 and 10. Children but be able to count forwards, then backwards from 0 in 2s, 5s and 10s. This is part of multiplication and division. Encourage your child to count objects in 2s, 5s & 10s regularly. This skill needs to be learnt through repetition. It can be done when laying the table for dinner, counting a knife and fork as two and seeing how many there are in total. Shoes and socks also lend themselves well to counting in 2s. https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/tg-m-06-counting-in-multiples-of-2-5-and-10-multiple-choice-quick- quiz-1 https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/dinosaur-multiples-bubble-pop-maths-game-tg-377 https://nrich.maths.org/5482 A series of fun clapping games to count in 2s, 5s or 10s. https://nrich.maths.org/14052 Share the party things out by counting in 2s, 5s or 10s. https://nrich.maths.org/145 Counting in 2s can help you solve this problem. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/coconut-odd-or-even Counting in 2s can help you find odd and even numbers. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/times-tables/coconut-multiples Knock down the coconuts to identify the different multiples. https://pbskids.org/curiousgeorge/busyday/fives/ Paint with George to practise counting in 5s. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zkjv382 Counting on and back in 2s. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhfjqp3 Counting on and back in 5s.

Understand the concept of multiplication by using concrete objects to answer 1-step problems involving 2s and 10s.Understand the concept of multiplication by using arrays with the support of the teacher.DivisionUnderstand the concept of division by grouping and sharing small objects.Solving problems involving division. Dividing equally into groups.

Following on from counting in multiples above, children can use these skills to multiply and divide. Showing the children how to make groups of 2, 5 or 10 can show them how repeated addition is linked to multiplication. Sharing can be done, with toys, food, siblings all sorts. It is important that children understand that each part needs to be equal. Organising a pretend party can link well to multiplication and division. Work out how many things you need for everyone .

division. Type in the multiplication you want to see shown, and then it will appear. Then you can look at the division calculation using the same numbers and counters.

shape.Recognise a quarter as one of four equal parts of an object or shape.Find simple fractions of objects, shapes and quantities.

When looking at fractions of objects, children need to share them between 2. When looking at quarters, they halve the objects again. Shapes can be halved by cutting in half, then in half again for quarters. Encourage your child to share food, toys and so on. They must make sure that everyone gets the same amount.
