Batalla de los barcos~ Battle of the Boats Number of players: 2 How to play

1. Each player has four boats. Before the game begins, both players fill in spaces on the grid below to show where their boats are located. Boats may only be arranged vertically or horizontally.

El Mario = 2 spaces La Susana = 3 spaces La Florencia = 4 spaces El Alejandro = 5 spaces

2. The first player calls out a number and letter pair from the grid (in Spanish), asking the opponent,

"¿Hay un barco en X, X?" The opponent responds with sí or no, depending on whether the number called hits one of the boats. *The first player records a hit by coloring in the space OR a miss by drawing an X on the space in the grid los barcos de mi rival (next page).

3. When a player hits the last space on a boat, the other player must say ¡HUNDIDO! Play continues until one player has sunk all the other's boats. That player wins the game.

La hora: ¿Qué hora es?- Telling time- What time is it?

Directions: Today you are going to learn how to tell time in Spanish. You will need to take notes during your teacher's Power Point presentation. Fill in the blanks below as you follow along and ask questions if needed.

1. ¿Cómo decimos la hora en español?

(How do we say what time it is in Spanish?) One is singular and another is plural

____________ Example: 5:00: _________________________

__________________ Example: 1:00: _________________________

2. When the clock is past the hour mark (X:00) there are several ways to add minutes.

_________________________ = and Example: 4:09: _________________________

_________________________ = quarter (after, til) Example: 2:15: _________________________

_________________________ = half past Example: 8:30: _________________________

Page 24: spanishatdundee.weebly.comspanishatdundee.weebly.com/uploads/4/3/2/9/4329946… · Web viewBatalla de los barcos~ Battle of the Boats Number of players: 2 How to play Each player

3. If the minute mark is 31 to 59 past an hour (X:31 to X:59)and you are telling time you should ROUND UP to the next hour and subtract the remaining minutes to the next hours using menos. Let's look at an example:

¿Qué hora es? Son las nueve. Son las nueve y veintitrés

Son las nueve y media. The MINUTE MARK IS NOW

31 TO 59.

What is the next hour? *So when we answer the question, ¿Qué hora es?, and the clock reads

we use the next hour. Son las diez . But wait, there's more! We need to complete

the second step which is to subtract (menos) the remaining minutes between 10:00 and 9:31. Sí, hay veintinueve minutos.

Entonces, ¿Qué hora es? Son las diez menos veintinueve. It’s 21m til’ ten

Try a few on your own to get the hang of it! USE how many minutes til’ the next hour (menos)
