Full-Time Summer Employment Field Research Aide In Sustainable Vegetable Production and Weed Ecology Paid Internship Opportunities Also Available! Opportunities: Our research aides have the opportunity to work with field study research aimed at improving the sustainability of vegetable production in Michigan. This research is conducted by Dr. Daniel Brainard in the Department of Horticulture. Working with us, you can expect the following: Growing Vegetables! You will assist with planting, maintaining, and harvesting a variety of veggies. Conducting Science! You can also expect to gain experience with scientific procedures for experimental design, field plot maintenance, biomass and soil sample processing, and data collection. Travel! Our research occurs on Michigan vegetable farms as well as at MSU’s horticultural research stations. As a result, this position offers extensive travel opportunities to off-campus research locations with transportation provided by university vehicles. Due to current MSU travel restrictions, some travel will be in university vehicles and some travel will be in personal vehicles. You will be reimbursed for all work travel in personal vehicles. Variety! Every day is unique and, while the majority of our work occurs outdoors, there will be periodic opportunities to gain experience working in both laboratory and greenhouse settings. Minimum Qualifications: Ability/desire to work outside 95-100% of time Ability to work in adverse weather conditions This position requires possession of a valid vehicle driver’s license Desired Qualifications: Agricultural plot research experience
