WEBSITE WONDERS:
Thank you to everyone who sent photographs of your Science and Maths Challenges in for the website. Go on and take a look in the class tab.

smile!

Thank you for the lovely photographs you have sent on to me. They really cheer me up! Keep them coming!
****IMPORTANT: IF YOU WISH TO SEND A PHOTOGRAPH OF YOUR CHILD, WITH A PIECE OF WORK FROM THIS WEEK THAT THEY ARE VERY PROUD OF TO BE UPLOADED ONTO THE SCHOOL WEBSITE, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU GIVE PERMISSION IN THE EMAIL. ***
Some more things to remember for this week:
PROJECT TIME!!!!! Each week I will allocate one or two slots for work on an end of year project. Your child can choose any topic for the project. Is there a topic that they have a great interest in and would like to research further?Decide on 5 or 6 sub- headings for the chosen topic and work on one sub- heading per week. I have given ideas of layout and further information on Wednesday’s work.
We are back to our Oxford Readers this week Go to www.oxfordowl.co.uk and click on My Class login at the top of the page.
Username: Tullydonnell Tigers
3
Password: MsKeegan ( with capital M and K)
Click on the age group tab and select readers through the week.
Go up or down the age group if reader is too difficult, too easy. Remember reading is not just about reading the words with fluency and expression, but most importantly it’s about comprehension ( reading for understanding) . Therefore question your child on what they have read before moving onto a new reader.
Spelling sheet and wordmat are included. This is our final week working on our new words for our next class reader. The children will start the book next week.
P.E. continues to be part of each day’s timetable. Go to the Active School tab on the website for lots of fun activities. Getting active each day is very important.
Mangahigh , a maths site is up and running for everyone. Well done to all that have already signed up. I recommend anyone who has not signed up yet to do so. It is great fun! This will be our Maths Warm Up this week. You can find the link on the text from the school.
You will need to access Abair Liom resources this week again on https://www.folensonline.ie/registration/
The closing date for entries for ‘We are Writers’ task is May 29th . You might like to put this task in, in place of a different lesson one of the days. I hope all of your tasks go well for you this week. The answer sheet is available on the website to use daily.
Ms. Keegan

1. Warm up: Mangahigh ( use the link from school text message if you have not yet registered.) OR Mental Maths page 52 Monday
2. Topic: Adding tens and units
Last week we were working on hidden sets of tens in tens and units. We learned that we can not have more than 9 units. If we have a hidden set of ten we must give it over the the tens’ side.
This week we learn how to add tens and units when there are hidden tens.
Take a look at this example:
**Now these take a lot of practise. So don’t worry if you don’t understand straight away.
9
Here we are adding 37 and 15
37 = 3 tens + 7 units
15 = 1 ten + 5 units
So no hidden tens so far?
But wait!!
When we add the units together look what happens.
7 + 5 = 12 uh oh!!!!
What can you tell me about 12?
That’s right, there is a hidden set of ten!

And started up his shiny, new rocket.

22
And Grandad’s rocket shot through the roof.
It zoomed and raced way up high
And soon it was just a dot in the sky.
But as it shot away from the ground
We all saw it stop and then turn around.
Then it came to the Earth beneath
‘Oops’, said Grandad, ‘I forgot my false teeth’.
