WELCOME TO CHURCH UNUSUAL – LIVE FROM ST FRANCIS
Physical Distancing, Social Solidarity and Spiritual Reality
Each of us should live as if we are positive to protect those around us. “In everything do to others as you would have them do to you”.
Matthew 7:12
THE PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH
PRAYERS FOR THE CHURCH We pray for the Anglican Church of Melanesia and The Most Revd Leonard Dawea - Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia and Bishop of Temotu. We pray for Steve our Bishop and our Diocese, for Thabo our Metropolitan and the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, for Justin of Canterbury and the Anglican Communion, and all Christians across the world.
A PRAYER FOR CONNECTION IN A TIME OF PHYSICAL SEPARATION
O God, in this time of physical separation may we be united in our desire to care for each other and our world. Strengthen our communication in unexpected ways, keep us listening in deep and meaningful ways, keep us patient in practical and resourceful ways and soften our hearts to help those who need us.
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
On this National Day of Prayer we pray for our national, provincial and local governments, for God to guide them as they develop policies and allocate the necessary resources to combatting this pandemic. We pray for our scientific community, leading the charge to understand the disease, to seek a vaccine and cure and to communicate its gravity. May God give them knowledge, wisdom, and a persuasive voice. And we pray for all who live in our country that we all live as if we are positive to protect those around us, that God will give us all courage, selflessness, hope and love in this time of national and global crisis.

WE ARE NOT OPENING THE ST FRANCIS FOR SUNDAY SERVICES FOR NOW!
As we all are aware President Ramaphosa announced on 26 May 2020 that churches may resume worship services. Archbishop Thabo’s response was “It is with awe and trepidation that I welcome President Cyril Ramaphosa’s acceptance that faith communities will be responsible and careful enough to return to worship under conditions which will not allow the spread of the coronavirus.”
Please be assured that we will not immediately re-open St Francis as a knee-jerk response to the President's announcement. Once the government has published its new regulations the Archbishop has indicated that “ACSA, with the help of our COVID-19 advisory team, will consolidate the regulations and the guidelines that religious leaders have drawn up and update our own guidelines accordingly.” Our St Francis Executive, Clergy and Parish Council are in constant communication to monitor developments as we await forthcoming guidance from the Archbishop and Bishop Steve.
Until we have done everything in our power to create and maintain a safe space and fulfil the stringent Occupational Health and Safety requirements, we will not consider St Francis reopening. We will continue with our weekly schedule as we have done since the start of the lockdown and worship in our homes and on our social media platforms. We will, however, move as swiftly as possible to implement the necessary measures, as and when advised, to responsibly reopen Sunday services.
In love for all. Stay safe. Stay home. Stay well. Stay prayerful.
