Week Beginning: Monday 22 nd June 2020 *Please remember you can upload photos of children’s learning to their 2Simple learning journals by replying to one of the emails you have received with your child’s observations from school. Home learning for Reception – Owl and Dove class.

Week Beginning: Monday 22nd June 2020

*Please remember you can upload photos of children’s learning to their 2Simple learning journals by replying to one of the emails you have received with your child’s observations from school. It would be lovely to see what the children have been busy learning at home.

Phonics:Phase Two:Sorting game – choose two sounds from these sounds and go on a treasure hunt around your home. Can you find items that begin with these sounds. Have a go at sounding them out. For example: ‘p-o-t’ or ‘s-ee-d’ You could even have a go at writing labels for them! Repeat using different sounds.

Phase Three :This week we are practising the digraphs (two letters making one sound together) ‘ar’ and ‘er’ Practise writing the words with the ‘er’ and ‘ar’ digraphs in:

- Hammer- Flower- Card- Part- Shark

Here is an ‘er’ sound maze. Some of the words have the ‘er’ sound in them. You need to follow the ‘er’ sound to the finish! I wonder how quickly you can get to the finish.

Challenge:

Can you choose one of the ‘er’ words from the sound maze and write a sentence about it.

Or

You could make your own sound maze for the ‘ar’ sound.

Reading:As we are looking at farm animals this week, listen to the story ‘Farmer Duck’ by Martin Waddell – www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gug6P8l1q6c

Listen carefully and answer these questions:- Who did the duck live with?- What did the farmer do all day? - Why was the duck feeling fed up?- What did the farmer keep asking the duck? And what did the duck reply?- Why did the other animals get upset?- What happened to the farmer in the end?

Challenge: Now that you have read this story, can you put these pictures in order? Which happens first? Next? After that? Finally? You could try and retell the story using the picture too!

Read to your child   Learning to read can be hard work for many children, so it is important to keep enjoying books together. Your child will also benefit from listening to books and stories that they cannot read themselves yet. This might include non-fiction books about things they are interested in or longer stories with more adventurous vocabulary.

Make sure that you continue to read with your child every night. Bedtime stories are such a special routine to have in place, so make the most of this time with your child.

English:This week, we are going to be doing a lot of writing linked to farm animals! We are going to learning and collecting facts about different animals that we can find on the farm. We would love to add your writing to our facts! Send us a photo of your writing this week to the office and we will share it at school!

Choose from one of the videos above and watch the clip linked to the animal. Can you add in some interesting facts about the animal into a fact file. You could look at where they live on farm (maybe a stable, sty, barn, field etc), what the farmers feed them. Don’t forget to draw and label your farm animal!

Challenge: You could use the factfile format to make your own mini information book about farm animals. Why not choose another animal to write a fact file for and stick them altogether!

Maths:This week, we are practising to add numbers by keeping the biggest number in our heads. To do this, we are going to be counting on! To start this skill off, practise counting on in 1s, but starting at different numbers. Use this number line to help you.

After this, play the adding game using a dice. Roll the dice to find your first number and write this down. Then roll the dice again to find your second number and then write in a number sentence. For example if I rolled a 4 and a 3, I would write down 4+3=

To add, put the biggest number in your heads and then count on. For example: put 4 in your heads and count, 5, 6, 7, (+3)

Challenge: Try using your counting on skills to play the game ‘Blast Off’ https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/blast-off (You will need to click on the ‘count on and back’ tab and then choose counting on 0-20)

PE/Active lesson

This week, it is Sports week at school. We are going to be trying a sporting challenge every day. Here are five activities – choose one each day to have a go at.

1. Athletics - Wacky races – can you create your own Wacky race? Add obstacles, find different ways to move and compete against the clock? Challenge someone in your home, or virtually to take part too.

2. Aiming and shooting games – Targets. Se a hoop, basket or box from home and balls of socks to see how many you can get in. To make it harder, move further away!

3. Team games - Cool catcher – how many throws and catches can you do with a partner in 60 seconds? Could you make it more challenging? E.g. turn around after each throw.

4. Adventure sports - Swipe and swap – how good are you at moving objects with different parts of your body? This is a great activity for core stability and balance. Can you challenge yourself to beat your personal best in three attempts?

5. Artistic sports - KIDZBOP – choose your favourite song, gather your backing dancers, watch the video and recreate the dance. Could you use this as inspiration to create your own dance? https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsMXYJDvYOAhpaDZ4QRuqVA?safe=true

E safety information:

10 top tips for staying safe on the internet:

1) Don’t post any personal information online – like your full name, email address, mobile number, etc.

2) Think carefully before posting pictures or videos of yourself. Once you’ve put a picture of yourself online, most people can see it and may be able to download it, it’s not just yours anymore.

3) Keep your privacy settings as high as possible!

4) Never give out your passwords.

5) Don’t befriend people you don’t know.

6) Don’t meet up with people you’ve met online. Speak to your parent or carer about people suggesting you do.

7) Remember that not everyone online is who they say they are.

8) Think carefully about what you say before you post something online.

9) Respect other people’s views, even if you don’t agree with someone else’s views doesn’t mean you need to be rude.

10) If you see something online that makes you feel uncomfortable, unsafe or worried: leave the website, turn off your computer if you want to and tell a trusted adult immediately.
