MICHAELANGELO was pushing a block of granite down the street. A curious neighbour was sitting on his porch and called out, ‘Why are you sweating so much over that bit of old stone?’ Michaelangelo replied, ‘Because there’s an angel in there waiting to come out’. When we look at another person we may think they are beautiful or handsome but when we get to know them, we realize there was much more beauty hidden inside. How do you bring that hidden beauty out? Nurture, encouragement, listening, praise…to be the best one can be. Fact is, most people live below their potential. All kinds of excuses are offered lowering our abilities to discover the intriguing talents that lie within. Too often we look at our imperfections instead of our hopes and dreams. God does everything for a reason. He made you to do special things for him, many things, that only you can do. You’re a bond between people – you influence their lives. May the Lord help you to realize why he made you. Let your life bring God’s joy and love to others!
This is my church. It is comprised of people just like me. It will be friendly if I am. It will do great work if I do. It will make many gifts to many causes if I am generous. It will bring others into the fellowship if I bring them. It’s seats will be filled if I fill them. It will be a church of loyalty and
love, faith and service, if I, who am part of it, am filled with these. Therefore with God’s help, I dedicate myself to the task of being all these things that I want my church to be! I want my church’s witness and testimony to shine. I want the bible, given to us by the blood of martyrs to be open and read with gusto to hear the truths of the gospel and the salvation of God’s love. Our Christian heritage in this Great South Land of the Holy Spirit is our treasure.
Many of the first Australians: explorers, settlers and leaders of our country had a personal relationship with God. Fernandez de Quiros on the day of Pentecost in 1606 claimed Australia in the name of Jesus and for the proclamation of the Gospel: ”The Great South Land of the Holy Spirit”. The first fleet brought the bible to Australia. Captain James Cook, Charles Sturt, Edward Eyre, Ludwig Leichardt, John Flynn were all Christians. The Australian Constitution was written by Prime Minister Alfred Deakin, a Christian who prayed regularly to God. What an awesome privilege and responsibility we have together, to continue God’s word in our church and our country.
Praise and thanks to God for his grace upon our nation.
Deut.32:7 ‘Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations’.
