We acknowledge that we meet and work in the Treaty 1 Land, the traditional land of the Anishinaabe, Cree, and Dakota people and the homeland of the Metis Nation.

We are grateful for their stewardship of this land and their hospitality which allows us to live, work and serve God the Creator here.

2Gloria

The Collect of the DayCelebrant O God of peace,People who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ,

that great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant,

make us perfect in every good work to do your will, and work in us that which is well-pleasing in your sight;through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

First Reading Acts 2:42-47They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles.  All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any

had need.  Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous 3 hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

2PSALM 23REFRAIN:

3The LORD / is my shepherd; I shall not / be in want.

He makes me lie / down in green pastures and leads me be-/ side still waters.

He re-/ vives my soul and guides me along right pathways for / his Name’s sake.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall / fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your / staff, they comfort me. REFRAIN

You spread a table before me in the presence of / those who trouble me; you have anointed my head with oil, and my cup is / running over.

Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the / days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the / LORD for ever. REFRAIN

Second Reading 1 Peter 2:19-25For it is to your credit if, being aware of God, you endure pain while suffering unjustly. If you endure when you are beaten for doing wrong, where is the credit in that? But if you endure when you do right and suffer for it, you have God’s approval.  For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in his steps.  ‘He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.’ When he was abused, he did not return abuse; when he suffered, he did not threaten; but he entrusted himself to the one who judges justly.  He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.  For you were going astray like sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.

Reader The Lord be with you.People And also with you.Reader The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.People Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Gospel John 10:1-10‘Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit.  The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.  The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.  When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.  They will not follow a stranger, but they will run from him because they do not know the voice of strangers.’  Jesus used this figure of speech with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.So again Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.  All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them.  I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

The Nicene Creed

Celebrant Let us confess our faith, as we sayPeople We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven:by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures;he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the

world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People 5Let us pray to our risen Saviour on behalf of the Church, the world, and all people according to their need.

A brief silence

Gracious and caring God, we give you thanks for being our Good Shepherd. We thank you for being the gate to abundant life, even as we walk through death-shadowed valleys. Thank you for knowing us by name, for claiming us as your own, and for guiding us until we are safely in your house forever.

O Great Shepherd,Be with your flock.

O Faithful Shepherd, defend your flock, the Church, from peril, and from the false teachings of wolves and persecutors. Provide for its needs, and lead it in paths of righteousness. Through its ministry, and through the work of all its ministers and workers, lead many to hear your voice and follow you.O Great Shepherd,Be with your flock. 6You are the Good Shepherd of this congregation. Lead us with your Word. Prepare our table with your Body and Blood. Teach us to do your will with glad and faithful hearts. And use us to lead many into your safe keeping.O Great Shepherd,Be with your flock.

In this stressful time of uncertainty, many are struggling in their daily lives and routines. Be the Good Shepherd to all young people and students as they try to come to terms with the realities of the present situation. Be with families, particularly single parent families, as they struggle to cope with all of the extra pressures, fears, and uncertainties of today.O Great Shepherd,Be with your flock.

You are the Gate for your sheep. Protect the people of every nation from false shepherds; from rulers who care more for their own interests than the good of their people; and from all the threatening dangers of this world. Bring peace in places of violence; rich pasture in places of poverty; and true righteousness in places of injustice.O Great Shepherd,Be with your flock.

Loving God, we confess that too often we have not listened to your shepherding voice, even though we know it. Our faith has been uncertain, our forgiveness too slow, and our compassion wavering. Too often we have followed the voices of wolves and false prophets, instead of yours, our true shepherd. We confess that we have strayed from your design and will for our lives, and we are deeply sorry. We ask for your compassion and forgiveness, for you to take us by the hand, and guide us into your life-giving fold.O Great Shepherd,Be with your flock.

You are the Shepherd who leads us through dark valleys shadowed by suffering. We remember at this time all the victims of the violence and carnage in Nova Scotia. Words fail us, and our understanding cannot grasp the tragedy. At this time we also remember all those known to us. Be the strong Guide and sure comfort of all who call upon you, especially: Chantal, Barbara, Margaret, Kay, Chris, Arthur, Jock, Harald, Shirley, Judy, Ann, Ellie, Elizabeth and Russ. Fill them with your abundant life; keep them steadfast in faith; and strengthen and bless all who care for them.

O Great Shepherd,Be with your flock.

Lord Jesus, you prepare a table for us in the presence of our last enemy, death itself. Thank you for leading home all who listened to your voice in their earthly life. Teach us to hear your voice, nourish us at your Table, and defend us from all our foes. Fix our eyes upon your Cross, and lead us through the valley of death’s dread shadows. Bring us into your Father’s house, where with all whom you claim as your dear flock, we shall receive the abundant life which you share with your Father and the Holy Spirit.O Great Shepherd,Be with your flock. 7Great Shepherd, fulfil now our prayers and petitions as may be best for us, granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come eternal life; for you, Father, are good and loving, and we glorify you through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, in the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
