D I O C E S E OF D A L L A S PASTORAL CENTER JOB DESCRIPTION Position/Title : Web Content Developer/Social Media Specialist Department : Communications Reports To : Director of Communications Date : July 2012 FLSA Status : Exempt General Summary of the Position The Web Content Manager/Social Media Specialist will manage and create content for the Diocese of Dallas. This position will ensure the Dioceses’ online communications are clear, consistent and effective. In collaboration with the Director of Communications, this employee will curate and update all aspects of the site on a daily basis using a Content Management System. The position is responsible for producing multimedia elements (Web video, audio, photo galleries) for the Website. In addition, he or she will launch and monitor social media activities on the site Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position Manages daily updates to/maintenance of the Diocesan Website utilizing a CMS. Develops and recommends to Director of Communications new and timely content for the Website that reflects and supports the mission of the Catholic Church. Drives latest content onto the site with ease. Writes site content with direction from the Communications Director. Proofs content prior to posting to ensure accuracy, consistent tone, style and organization. Evaluates all content for adherence to guidelines defined by the Director of Communications, recognizing that various templates or content types may necessitate a range of standards for different content. Works with Diocesan departments to manage progression of content through the CMS. Communicates to all relevant stakeholders the status of Website content, which includes questions such as: What is set to be published? What has been published? What is the performance of that content to date? Trains and assists staff on technical and content matters related to the Website, educating them on tools and processes related to the CMS.

General Summary of the Position

The Web Content Manager/Social Media Specialist will manage and create content for the Diocese of Dallas. This position will ensure the Dioceses’ online communications are clear, consistent and effective.

• Produces multimedia content for the site: video, audio, photo slideshows. Guides visual storytelling efforts and coaches other diocesan staff on producing multimedia content.

• Manipulates graphics for the Web and ensures branding guidelines are maintained. • Recommends strategies for improving Web traffic and content optimization.

Provides reports and analysis on weekly Website traffic. Takes the lead on traffic building initiatives.

• Maintains digital archives of all content published on online, capturing key information such as article title, pages per article, content type, etc.

• Guides social networking efforts on behalf of the Diocese. Develops comprehensive social media strategy, leveraging the major social networks (Facebook, Twitter), blogs, video, social commerce and more. Defines ROI and success benchmarks and methods to ensure Communications Office objectives are met through social media engagement. Energizes and trains staff on social media best practices. Identifies threats and opportunities in using social networking and reports information to appropriate parties. Maintains the Social Media Policy of the Diocese of Dallas and Catholic Community Calendar.

• Performs other job related duties and manages special projects as assigned

Position Requirements

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: • Work experience in PR, online marketing, communication planning, message

development, implementation planning and execution • Writing, grammar and proofreading skills necessary • Knowledge of social media communities and tools, with a solid understanding of how

to drive audience engagement within online social networks. Verifiable social media contributions that execute a marketing strategy for a large organization

• Ability to identify threats and opportunities in online user generated content, Basic Photoshop, sound and video editing experience and familiarity with design and publishing software required

• Proven ability to work under limited supervision Education and Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Web Design, Digital Media, Web

Development or equivalent, plus three or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Proficiency in developing and maintaining a Website using a Content Management System

• Must have demonstrated CMS implementation experience at a large organization (three or more years experience managing content and production for a high traffic Website)

• Functional knowledge of HTML/CSS, web analytics and SEO • Must also be proficient with MS Office suite Special Requirements:
