THE MATCHUPLouisiana Tech (1-2) continues its season-opening road stretch as the Lady Techsters make a quick trip down I-20 to face off against Jackson State (0-3) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Jackson, Mississippi.

LA Tech is coming off of a 1-2 weekend in the Marriot Houston Westchase Invitational, which was hosted by Houston Baptist. eAfter dropping the season opener to Texas-Rio Grande Valley, the Lady Techsters quickly bounced back with a 3-0 victory over Alcorn State the following morning for their first win of the season.

Louisiana Tech is 6-1 all-time against Jackson State after the two programs faced each other twice last season with the Lady Techsters cruising to a 3-0 victory in both meetings. Under fourth year head coach Adriano de Souza, the Lady Techsters have never dropped a single set to the Jackson State Tigers.

Jackson State opened their season last weekend in Starkville, Mississippi, at the Mississippi State Bulldog Invita-tional. The Lady Tigers had a rough start to the new campaign after dropping matches to Southern Utah, ULM and Mississippi State in straight sets.

STAT LEADERS• Junior outside hitter Angela Papach leads the Lady Techsters’ attack after the junior registered 31 kills (3.10 per set) over the weekend and was named to the Marriott Houston Westchase Invitational All-Tournament team.

• Sophomore setter Brooke Short is nearing the century mark for assists just three matches into the season as she recorded 73 assists in last weekend’s tournament.

• Junior libero Alejandra Aviles has accounted for over a third of the team’s digs, averaging over four a set and 41 total digs on the young season.

OLD BLOOD = EXPERIENCELA Tech returns eight letterwinners from last season, all of which played in at least 24 of the 30 matches from the 2014 season. Five of the returners started in at least half of the matches they played in last season. The seven upperclassmen (2 seniors, 5 juniors) on this year’s roster make the 2015 Lady Techsters the most experienced squad since the 2010 season.

THREE LADY TECHSTERS RETURN AFTER 100+ KILL SEASONSLA Tech returns three players from last season’s team (Angela Papach, Helena Gunnarsdóttir, Adria Morales) that recorded at least 100 kills over the course of the 2014 season. Gunnarsdóttir totaled 149 a season ago in her first season at Tech after transferring from Lee College. The Iceland native averaged 1.60 kills per set, while also recording 128 digs and 25 blocks for the Lady Techsters in 2014. Papach ranked second on the team last year with 193 kills and 1.99 per set, while also totaling 35 blocks (2 solo, 33 assists) as a sophomore.

TECH TO HOST HOME INVITATIONAL FOR 3RD STRAIGHT YEARFor the third straight season, Louisiana Tech is set to host the Lady Techster Invitational with ULM, Southern and Lamar set to visit Ruston for the two-day tournament in September. Since 2009, LA Tech has a 10-7 record in its home tournaments.

UTSA TO HOST 2015 C-USA CHAMPIONSHIPThe Conference USA Volleyball Championship will be hosted by the Roadrunners of UTSA in San Antonio, Texas, on Nov. 20-22. The 2015 edition of the event will mark the first time UTSA will play host to a Conference USA championship in any sport.

C-USA VOLLEYBALL GAINS SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCEDue to the gaining popularity of the sport and the continued success of the league’s 13 vol-leyball members, Conference USA has launched a Twitter account solely dedicated to #CUSAVB. By following @CUSAVB, Conference USA volleyball fans, coaches, and players alike will have the ability to receive up-to-the-minute updates of the league’s happenings.

WKU LOOKS TO DEFEND TITLEFollowing a share of the C-USA regular season crown and a C-USA tournament title during its in-augural season in the league, WKU made its eighth appearance in the NCAA tournament, facing Iowa State in 2014. The Lady Toppers only lost one league match en route to their titles, and the squad has been tabbed to repeat in the C-USA Volleyball Preseason Poll, where it collected 163 points in votes as selected by the league’s 13 head coaches. WKU notched an overall record of 30-6 with a 15-1 mark in league action in 2014. The Lady Toppers landed a conference-bestthree players on the preseason squad.
