MORNING Quantum Global
Good Morning & Welcome to Tuesday's trading action at Dalal
Street, dated 7th May 2019.
Caution will continue to be the buzzword at Dalal Street as sentiments are
seen feeling the heat of President Donald Trump’s Twitter threat to raise tariff
on China.
Honestly speaking, Trump has dropped a trade war bombshell. Diplomacy
has clearly failed. Now, the trade war will resume this Friday — should 11th-
hour negotiations fail.
The 10% tariff on $200 billion worth of Chinese wares becomes 25% this
Friday 10 May 2019.
Trump's twitter demonstrates that export-driven China needs the United
States more than the United States needs China. We say so because after
backing away from scheduled talks China has agreed to proceed to the U.S for
the scheduled meeting. We suspect a truce and a peaceful resolution as early
as this Friday.
Well, if these are one of Trump’s infamous negotiating tactics, then the odds
are in favor of for a peaceful resolution. Alternatively, if the talks fail then this
could be a dangerous game. Worldwide stock markets could simply tank.
That brings us to our call of the day suggests the bulls camp would sincerely
pray that the "Sell in May and go away" omen does not haunts them and the
upcoming election outcome on May 23rd ushers in more cheer to our stock
market.
Technically, Nifty needs to move above its key hurdles at 11,857 mark quickly
else there is a danger that any rally at Dalal Street from here on will fizzle out
with totality and will go into history books as momentum failure. The
corresponding hurdles for Bank Nifty are at 30669 mark. The make-or-break-
support levels on Nifty are at 11519 mark.
Digging deeper, there is not much to distract investors from the renewed
trade tensions. We say so because:
1.Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 949 crore in
the Indian equity markets in yesterday's trade.
2.India's service sector growth hits 7-Month low as many a businesses
have postponed decisions and expansion plans until the outcome of
general election.
3.ICICI Bank's net profit declined 5%t to Rs. 969 crore for the quarter
ended March 31 compared with profit of Rs. 1,020 crore. The Q4 results
miss street's expectations.
4.Overnight, Wall Street was broadly lower.

SGX Nifty is inching up this Monday morning primarily after Dow Jones
overnight clawed back from a deficit of nearly 500 points.
The near term direction will also depend on the:
A.Crude-oil price movement.
B.Trend in USD/INR.
STOCKS TO WATCH:
• Our chart of the day suggests initiating short positions in stock slike
AMARA RAJA BATTERY, SIEMENS and UJJIVAN on any early strength
with inter-week perspective.
• Bharti Airtel has reported a 29% increase in net profit for the quarter
ended March 31 compared to corresponding period a year ago. The Q4
