What Did You See in the Mirror? by Joe Chesser
Before you left home this morning to go to work, school, church
or just to the gym for a workout, my guess is that every one of you took a look at yourself in a mirror. We all do. Well, maybe kids don’t, but they’re probably not reading this anyway. What did you see? What were you looking at? Hair and/or makeup? Clothing zipped and buttoned and free of lint or stains? After all, when you leave the house you want to look presentable no matter where you are heading.
Mirrors will help you with that. Mirrors will accurately reflect all of these things … and more if you are looking. When you looked in the mirror this morning, what did you see regarding your spiritual condi-tion? Did your face reveal anything about your attitudes or your state of mind? What did you see concerning your heart?
I’d say most of us never gave such things a thought. I’m guessing that you are like me. When I look in a mirror in the morning I’m not thinking about spiritual matters. But whether we do it at that moment or some other moment during the day, all of us need to consider what we look like spiritually every day. James suggests that we use the Bible like a mirror to see what we look like (James 1.22-25). For this to be effective we need to trust the mirror to give an accurate reflection and trust our-selves to make whatever corrections we need to make.
Sometimes we would prefer to have a mirror like the Evil Queen in the story of Snow White. We don’t really want to know the truth; just show us what we want to see, tell us what we want to hear. Or like the Pharisee in Jesus’ parable in Luke 18, we would rather be confi-dent in our own righteousness than face the truth of God’s word. Neither of these stories had a good ending.
Instead, we need to daily look at God’s mirror, the scriptures, and make a clear and honest evaluation of how we match what we see there. As James said, “Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after look-ing at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives free-dom and continues to do this … he will be blessed in what he does” (James 1.23-25).
Let your morning look in the mirror at home remind you to take a daily look at the mirror of God’s word. Check your attitudes and ac-tions. Check to see what’s missing and what needs to be changed. You will be blessed!
FOODSHARE CAN-A-THON
Food pantries throughout the area are sponsoring a can-a-thon drive to bring in food items that are needed by the community. We have been asked to participate.
We need each family that can, to bring in a bag filled with canned fish or meats, peanut butter, soups, and
various canned vegetables and fruits.
Brown bags will be made available no later than March 24th. You can use your own bags if you want. The bags are to be filled and brought in no later than March 31st. We will stack them in our PANTRY COLLECTION BOX located in the hallway. As it fills, items will be removed and placed in our pantry storage area. THANKS for helping feed those in need! If you have questions, see Rebecca Prichard.
COMPASS KIDS’ EVENT
We are sending a HUGE THANK-YOU TO Ms. Barb, and Ms. Kendall for their efforts with out Compass Kids. I heard things like “That was the best cake I ever ate!” to “Look at all these neat things we learned how to make!” Ladies you made a special connection with the kids and those parents who had a couple hours to themselves!

If each person (110 people) gave $1.44 more each week, we would have an additional $8,237 in 1 year; that is $ 3,437 more than 1 week’s budget and $ 9 more than our current shortfall! $1.44 per week for 52 weeks totals $ 74.88. Let us consider all that He has provided us!
