MASS INTENTIONS: Our book of Mass Intentions for July, August and September is now open. The volume of requests for Mass Intentions has grown significantly since the inception of our parish. For that reason, it has become necessary to put some guidelines in place. We must limit intentions to one weekend Mass and two weekday Masses per quarter. The stipend for a Mass Intention is $10.

If you do desire a specific date that we are not able to honor, our retired and mission priests are able to accept your intentions through the Leo Benevolent Association and offer them at the Masses they pray. This can be arranged through our parish office.

BREAD AND WINE: If you are interested in sponsoring the Bread and Wine for a given weekend, please contact the Parish Office at 231-9782. The stipend is $30 for Bread and Wine.

From the Pastor’s desk…

OPEN HEARTS AND OPEN DOORS: WELCOMING A GLOBAL OUTREACH CATHOLIC EXCHANGE STUDENT- Hosting an exchange student is an amazing experience for you and for the exchange student. Lourdes Academy would like to welcome two Global Outreach exchange students for the 20 Casa Esther 20-2021 academic year. Global Outreach is

Catholic exchange program with a mission of building a civilization of love by forming young dynamic Catholic servant leaders for the 21st century. Placement of students becomes a reality when a household opens the door to their heart and home and says “yes” to hosting a student. Currently, 11 students are waiting for their “Good News! We have a host family for you” letter. The students are from Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine. For further information: Please contact Barbara Tota-Boryczka, Executive Director, barbara.tota [email protected] (920) 540-3085 or Fr. Larry Seidl, Spiritual Director, [email protected] (920) 412-0320.

The president of our Catholic school system in Oshkosh is writing a book dealing with the topic of Redemptive Suffering. This work is a collection of people’s life-changing experiences that have forced them to deal with personal suffering. Due to the coronavirus pandemic he is looking to interview people in the next few months via teleconference (on-line) to share their stories. If you are willing to participate in this project you man contact John Dinegan by phone (920)369-6615 or by email ([email protected]). All participants will remain anonymous in the book and information collected will be maintained in a secure location. Personal accounts from some, but perhaps not all, will appear in the final draft of the book, but all information is important to this project. Interview subjects….Terminal illness….cancer, ALS; A long-term condition… (diabetes, divorce, blindness, affair guilt,); life event that occurs once…(drunk driving arrest, alcoholism/a successful recovery, abortion, an affair, infertility,); a suffering family member based on an individual’s poor choice (drunk driving arrest, affair, gambling, suicide,); a friend/sibling/spouse helping another work through a life condition; long term care giver perspective (caring for family member with long term illness); addiction (alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling,); recovery…facing the people that you hurt (addiction, affair, gambling,); families that have dealt with multiple life-changing events; rape/physical abuse; unwanted divorce; loss of spouse; death of a child (a mother’s story); a life sentence (infertility, depression, an amputee, abortion); any other examples of suffering not mentioned here are open for consideration—job loss, someone struggling with a vocation, a family member that has left the church. Thank you for your consideration.

I invite you to keep our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) Candidates in your prayers as they prepare to receive the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation, and our 2nd graders as they prepare to receive the Eucharist for the first time. One of the things that they have already done to prepare themselves to receive the Eucharist for the first time is to celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation. The question I invite you to respond to is, “What is your favorite story of forgiveness in the Gospels. E-mail your responses to me, along with your name, phone number and you will be entered in a drawing for a Milwaukee Brewers corn hole game. The deadline is May 11.

Communion: Under Diocesan directives, we cannot distribute communion. This also follows the CDC’s directives as well.

Worship Aids: I will e-mail them out to you.

Remember to keep one another in your prayers. Give your neighbor a call, especially the elderly. Maybe even leave a care package by their door, but let them know it is there. Let us reveal that we have encountered Jesus in the Eucharist by living out the Gospel and bringing others to Christ.

We’re presently engaged in the Bishop’s Appeal, “Rising in Faith”, for the Green Bay Diocese. The Bishop’s Appeal is a direct appeal to people of the diocese to make a gift and support the mission and ministries of the Diocese of Green Bay. These ministries reach many different people in need. You can either make a onetime gift or pledges over the year. Please know that whatever you are able to give, I am grateful to you! If you are unable to make a contribution at this time, consider praying of the success of the Bishop’s Appeal. Our goal this year is $46,379. Your gift needs to be above what you are already giving to our parish. Thank you in advance for responding generously. As of April 28, there has been 245 gifts and have raised $53,030. Congratulations, we have surpassed our goal!!! Please join with me in discovering our need to give and our call to be “Rising in Faith."

FORMED Presents: I would like to take this opportunity not only to share with you some of the things available, but also a description to help you become more familiar with FORMED. To sign up: Go to fomed.org; Click Sign Up; Select “I belong to a Parish or Organization”; Find your Parish by Name or Zip; Enter your e-mail and you are in!

Pastoral Ponderings from the Pastoral Associate…

I read an article written by Arianna Huffington that was printed April 3 in Thrive Global. In part, below, are some good thoughts from her article to ponder.

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” says Frodo in The Lord of the

Rings. “So do I,” says Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Just a few weeks ago, as we went about our busy lives not always being aware to stay connected to the essence of who we are, to take care of ourselves along the way, to reach out to others, and to connect to that place that unites us in our humanity and from which everything is possible.

In the midst of untold suffering, we are being reminded of something our modern culture has forgotten: that there are two threads running through our lives. One is pulling us into the world to achieve and make things happen, the other is pulling us back from the world to nourish, replenish and refuel ourselves

Andrew Fiala states, “Now is the time to imagine a post-Corona future that is kinder, gentler and more supportive of the weak, the sick and the vulnerable. The people most vulnerable are those who are the least paid, even as their work is deemed most “essential” — from the nurses, caregivers, social workers and other first responders to the grocery and delivery workers on the front lines of the crisis. When all else is stripped away, we are learning what is truly essential, and what isn’t. We need to stop hurting our health and our relationships by striving so relentlessly and breathlessly after success as the world defines it. There is a place of wisdom, peace and strength in each one of us. We need to reacquaint ourselves with it!

We have all now been forced to pause. And during this pause, we are discovering that certain parts of life were not as essential as we thought — and just as important, rediscovering certain essential parts we had forgotten. As Pope Francis said in the blessing he delivered while praying for an end to the coronavirus, “It is a time to choose what matters and what passes away, a time to separate what is necessary from what is not.”

“What is a good life?” Now in this forced pause this question is creeping back into our consciousness. The coronavirus crisis has awakened something spiritual in us. According to the Pew Research Center, a majority of Americans have prayed for the end of the pandemic — including 15% of those who say they seldom or never pray. Whether or not we belong to any religious or spiritual tradition, there is a renewed awareness of the need to take care not just of our physical health but our mental, emotional and spiritual health — to take care of our souls.”

Do you feel that God is calling you? Do you want to receive Baptism, First Communion or

Confirmation? Are you discerning a call to religious life or the

priesthood? Are you ready to prepare for marriage? Are you suffering and in need of healing, prayer, or the

Anointing of the Sick?

Contact us today to meet with a staff member who can answer your questions and help you follow Jesus' call.

BAPTISM: The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated the 2nd weekend of each month at the Saturday 4:00 PM Mass or on Sunday at the 9:00 or 10:45 AM Mass (We do not have Baptisms during the season of Lent.) A Baptism preparation session is required for all first-time parents and must be completed 4 to

6 weeks before the date of the baptism. Parents are welcome to do this before their baby is born also. Please call the parish office to register at least 3 months prior to the birth of your child.

MARRIAGE: The Sacrament of Marriage may take place any given weekend providing the site is available. Weddings may be held at the St. Peter or St. Mary site on Saturdays at 1:00 PM or on another day per arrangements made through the Parish Office. Please call at least six months prior to your wedding to secure a date and begin the initial steps of your wedding preparation.

FUNERALS: To begin the process of planning a funeral for a deceased loved one, contact the funeral home you have chosen and they will call the Parish Office to arrange a date and time for the Funeral Mass. Contact information will be provided to the Parish so they

may call the family and arrange a time to discuss the Funeral Liturgy, music, readings, etc.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK: Most Blessed Sacrament provides a Mass of Anointing twice annually for those who are seriously ill or awaiting surgery. If you know of someone who is ill or hospitalized, homebound or in a nursing home, or nearing the end of life, contact the Parish Office to arrange a time for Fr. Jerry to administer the Sacrament.

Please contact the Parish Office at 231-9782 to begin the process of receiving any of these Sacraments and you will be connected with the appropriate staff member. For information regarding Religious Education/Discipleship Formation, please ask for Shannon Ausloos.

COLLABORATEWITH

CARE MINISTRY

Recently a group of grade-school students from our

parish worked on making cards for our parishioners in the nursing homes. What a beautiful gift to offer during this time of quarantine when those in our nursing homes cannot see family or friends, except through the window. Those cards truly bring the mission of our parish directly to them. Thank you to the students involved in this generous project!

In addition to the nursing homes, our parish has many members over the age of 80 who are homebound or confined to their homes during this time. Would you be willing to collaborate with our Care Ministry Team and make a card or two for someone at home? You may drop it off at the parish office or mail it to 435 High Ave., attention: Laurie. Your card will then be sent on to one of our elderly, ill, or homebound parishioners.

Anyone can participate in this collaborative project and your card will bring Jesus’ love to someone in our parish. Thank you for helping!

Most Blessed Sacrament invites you to participate in our MAY QUARANTINE

CHALLENGE!

Each day the parish community will be completing activities to make our time in quarantine

count. Daily challenges include self-care, family time, virtual parish challenges, community service, and prayer.

Follow along with our May calendar and find resources for each day's challenge on our parish website at www.mbsoshkosh.com. You can also follow along on our parish Facebook page.

Feel free to share this challenge with others too. Want a hard copy of the calendar mailed to you or someone you know? Contact the parish office at 231-9782 and we will drop one in the mail to you!
