Principal’s Message
Welcome everyone to the new school year. I trust the Christmas
break was enjoyable and provided opportunity to spend time with
family and friends, as well as reflect on the wonderful gift given to
us all through Jesus. I particularly want to welcome those students
and families who are joining us for the first time this year. My prayer is that you
will feel welcomed to our community, that WCCS will be a great blessing in your
lives, and that you in turn will be a blessing to this community.
We have a number of new staff joining us this year and it is my pleasure to
introduce them to you. Joining us in the Junior School are Mrs Melinda McKay
(Year 1) and Mrs Meredith Brown (Year 6). In the Middle and Senior School, we
have Mrs Emma Maher (Drama), Mrs Carla duToit (Maths), Mrs Bianca Vieiro
(Science) and Mr Zac Metcalfe (PDHPE). I am excited to have each of these
teachers join the team this year and trust we will all work hard to ensure they feel
welcome as they learn new names and routines.
We also have some new faces in the administration team this year. Mrs Sara
Hughes joins us in the role of Food Technology Assistant, so when those
wonderful food delights come home you can be thankful for the behind-the-scenes
work that took place by Sara to help make it all happen. Also joining us this year
on Tuesdays and Thursdays is Mrs Natalie Papalexion. Natalie will be in the front
office at student reception looking after the countless comings and goings in
possibly the busiest location in the whole school.
It is great to be back. The staff have been preparing throughout last week for the
students’ return and we approach 2016 with eager anticipation of what the Lord
has in store for us. I look forward to journeying with you all again throughout this
year and witnessing firsthand the many great things our students will learn and
experience.
God Bless,
Ian Liney

One last thing about 2015…
The final Textiles project for the Year 10 Textiles class in 2015
was a community project work. The students decided very
quickly that they wanted to make something beautiful for the
children’s ward at a hospital. After a few enquiries, I discovered
that Gosford Hospital was the central intake for unwell children
and that the Play Therapist, Belinda Shore, was really keen for us
to create a unique piece for their ward. We discovered that there
were a lot of toys and games for the older children but very little
for the babies to play with.
The students decided to create a textural play mat, which is a
very tactile quilt that is placed on the floor or baby’s cot (well washed in between these events of course).
This collaborative work took some time to plan as Chantal, Cayleigh, Katherine and Kristen are all skilled
Textiles students with strong opinions and different tastes, but time was limited as the students were off on
Work Experience the following week! The plan became, theme: gardens, three squares each to design and
embellish with different topics, and these ranged from rainbows and butterflies to frogs on lily pads, lizards,
owls, bees, sun, clouds and sky and buzzy bees… and more! It felt and looked fantastic.
I was given all the squares to sew together, quilt and back. We had a date arranged to present the play mat
after the students returned from work experience, the same day as they were involved with their Service Day
with Mrs Harrison and Mrs Heywood, who had come in to sew with Year 10 for the day… another wonderful
community textile project that should be told.
I felt truly blessed to see the girls present their play mat to the children’s ward staff and I know that it will
be a treasured textile item there. I want to thank the girls for their
servant hearts and their willingness to want to give out of the
abundance that we have for others.
He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.
