Music News from Mrs. Schaibly

During the month of February 5th grade will continue working on the Commercial Project as well as begin-ning the world drumming unit. 4th Grade will be preparing to be able to play sixteenth notes. 3rd Grade is working on preparing for their 3rd grade concert which is February 20th. 2nd grade will begin working on their 2nd grade concert. 1st grade is working on note reading and rhythms, so-mi-la songs and orff ar-rangement songs. Finally kindergar-ten is working on steady beat songs with new rhythms, and different things they can do with their voice.

LMC NEWS

We have been busy in the library enjoying the sweetness of reading stories together, sharing books that have captured our imaginations and doing our STREAM activities. In the month of February we are running our second reading chal-lenge. We will be filling a heart with “candies” when we read. Our school wide goal is for over 100 students filling their hearts with books! A copy of the reading challenge can be found on WC Petty Library Media Center Page.

Dr. PG’s Art News

I am working to load K-1 and some classes artwork into Artsonia so parents see all the fun things we have been doing. Artsonia is new to me this year and I am still learning how to do a few things in it. There is NO ART CLUB on February 6th and February 13th. February 6th is the Hillcrest Frosted Fine Arts Festival and February 13th, I am at a training outside of the district. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for your flexi-bility.

Mrs. Jerik’s Art News Kindergarten classes have learned about artist Piet Mondrian and identified char-acteristics in his artwork to create their Hearts inspired by his work. First grade classes are completing Van Gogh inspired sunflower paintings and will move into Wild Things with textures. Second grade students are wrapping up the first texture heart project inspired by artist Jim Dine. They created implied texture hearts. Next we will create actual tex-tures using model magic. Third grade students are finishing metal tooling with Thailand Elephants. Fourth grade classes are working on self-portraits inspired by Pablo Picasso. We would like to thank everyone that came out for our 2nd annual art show! It is so exciting to see how proud the kids are when they see their hard work in a frame and on display.
