“How to” Guide for Using this Document: This document contains action plans for all Focus Areas in the Waynesville R-VI School District Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP). Each Focus Area of the CSIP has components aligned to the area, which are as follows:

1. Focus Area- Broad area related to a major function of the district (e.g. Student Learning). 2. Goal- Overarching statement explaining the intention of the Focus Area statement. 3. Strategy(ies)- More specific statements detailing how the district will address the Goal Statement. 4. Indicator(s)- Detailed statements stating the specific areas being addressed to meet the strategies and goals. Action

plans are built from these statements. Tied to these areas are a series of SMART Objectives, or measurable targets to define achievement of a specific goal, strategy, and indicator. Here is a visual example of the alignment:

Focus Area: Student Learning

Strategy: Develop and enhance

educational/instructional programs for students to

improve the quality of their performance and

enable students to meet their personal, academic,

and career goals.

Indicator: Preparing students for college and post-secondary pursuits

by providing relevant learning experiences and problem/project based learning opportunities.

SMART Objective: The number of graduating

seniors enrolled in advanced coursework

will increase from 50% to 70% by 2017.

Goal: Optimize student learning through effective

school improvement initiatives

Page 5: Waynesville R-VI Comprehensive School … R-VI Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. 1 ... MAP will improve to 392.8 MPI by 2017 ... Waynesville R-VI Comprehensive School

4

Action plans are then created to explain what specific actions will take place to achieve the goal, strategy, and indicator of the CSIP and success will be defined by the SMART Objective(s) linked to a particular goal, strategy, and indicator. Action plans are given a name that conveys the intention of the action plan (e.g. college and career readiness). Each action plan begins with the information below:

Strategic Focus Area: Student Learning Action Plan: College and Career Readiness SMART Objective: 1 CSIP Goal: Optimize student learning through effective school improvement initiatives (curriculum, assessment, instruction, and organizational development). Strategy: Develop and enhance educational/instructional programs for students to improve the quality of their performance and enable students to meet their personal, academic, and career goals. District Indicator: *Preparing students for college and post-secondary pursuits by providing relevant learning experiences and problem/project based learning opportunities.

Broad “Focus Area”

Goal aligned to the Focus Area.

Strategy aligned to the Goal

Indicator is a more specific statement supporting the goal

Action plan and name, tied to a specific focus area.

The SMART Objective box lists the number(s) a particular plan is tied to and a list of all SMART Objectives, including data supporting the objective, is located at the beginning of the document prior to the first action plan.

Under the primary heading of each action plan, there is a list of steps the district will implement to accomplish the goal, strategy, and indicator of the action plan, as well as the objectives that will be used to determine if the district has succeeded. The next page includes a list of all of the SMART Objectives for the District CSIP plan, and then a series of action plans tied to each Focus Area. The SMART Objective Chart includes a reference to the page number where the plan is located.
