The first annual Fuel Up to Play 60 Family Fitness Night was so much fun! Students and their families enjoyed cross country skiing, yoga, and hip hop for the fitness por-tion of the event and created MY PLATES to take home to fill up their plates with whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and protein. The FUTP60 program will start planning another event for May that will include family fun with a summer Olympics theme, more details coming next month!

CLOTHING AND SNEAKER DONATIONS
If you have clothing and sneakers that your children have outgrown, we can always use
them in the nurse’s office. We especially could use pants in smaller sizes (size 6 or 8
jeans or sweatpants) and smaller size shoes (sizes 12 to 3).
Thanks for your help!

From the Music Room…………………………………………
“Summer Camp”, Third and Fourth grade Musical Play
Our third and fourth grade students have begun learning the songs
for their musical play called, “Summer Camp”. Welcome to Camp Runamok and a whacky
camp experience, complete with Bugs on Parade and a bear!
The third graders will be performing at 7 p.m. on May 9th and
The fourth graders will be performing at 7 p.m. on May 11th.
The Fourth grade students are also busy playing their recorders. They are very good at
playing B, A, G and C using quarter notes, half notes, and whole notes. They took their first
playing test on “Merrily We Roll Along” and the students played very nicely. In February,
the fourth graders began playing in 2-part Harmony.
Our Third graders finished a unit of study on Melody in music. They learned about the
musical scale, pitch, and how a melody is created. They are very good at aural recognition of
the highness and lowness of pitch. In March they will be exploring the music of Native
Americans, specifically the Iroquois, as well as continuing to learn the songs for their musi-
cal.
The Second grade students have been exploring pitch and melody. They have learned how
to match pitch by listening to two different pitches and identifying the melodic direction.
They have also explored the musical scale by playing the Boomwhackers, chimes, and xylo-
phones. Our second graders enjoy singing: Land of the Silver Birch, The Old Woman and the Pig, and Do,Re,Mi from “The Sound of Music.” Our First graders are reading, playing and creating rhythms using quarter notes, quarter
rests and double eighth notes. They also composed their own rhythm patterns. In March
they will be studying the percussion family of instruments. The first graders enjoy singing:
Let’s Go Driving, Down by the Bay and Chicken Soup with Rice.
The Kindergarteners have been exploring Form in music. Form is how the composer puts
the music together. The kindergarten students can identify the parts of the composition by
listening, singing, playing instruments and movement. In March they will begin exploring
high, middle and low sounds.
Our kindergarten students enjoy singing “My Farm”, “The Little Spotted Puppy”, and “The
Tugboat.”
LIBRARY UPDATES Kindergarten - 2nd was working on Fly Guy and Tedd Arnold. Students en-tered drawings of what they think Fly Guy's next adventure should be. Kin-dergarten and First grade has a variety of seasonal themed books. Second grade is starting to work on computer skills. The students have ex-plored Pebble Go, EduTyping, NASA websites, and more. Third and fourth grades has been working on Pebble Go, DOGO news, and Microsoft word. Plus we introduced Judy Blume's picture books as a the fea-tured artist.
Library Penny Drive Update In February, the library and PTO held a Penny Drive. In two weeks, $686 was
raised. The funds will be going toward purchase an electronic resource called Pebble Go
as well as new books. The top three classes were 1st place Mrs. Webb, 2nd place Mrs.
Kerr, and 3rd place Ms. Sierota. 3rd and 4th graders explored the website and wrote per-
suasive/argumentative letters about whether to purchase the resource or not. It was a
huge success.
In March, the library will be holding our
Spring Book Fair. The library is using a
company called Reading Warehouse for
this book fair. It features $3 paper
backs, $5 hard back books, and some pre-
mium titles. This is a great resource to
raise money to keep updating the library
books with new modern titles as well as
replace older worn out books in poor con-
dition.
Fourth Grade News
Our fourth graders are busily preparing for the PSSAs. We have been practicing using our test taking strategies daily. Module 5 in Eu-reka Math is all about fractions. Finding equiva-lent fractions, comparing fractions, and order-ing fractions are important skills we are current-ly focusing on. In Science, we have been explor-ing with electricity and magnetism. We will be delving into a unit on Life Science soon! Thank you for your continued support.
Third Grade News
First Grade has held three Positive Paw Morning Meetings so far this year. This is when we meet in the gathering area to greet first grade friends from other class-rooms and to honor those students who have earned a Positive Paw from their classmates’ votes. The character trait for October was Responsibility, for January it was Tolerance, and for February it was Kindness. We look forward to awarding more Positive Paws in the months of March and May.
For Read Across America third
grade read Dr. Seuss stories, in-
cluding "The Lorax." Students pre-
tended they were the Lorax and
wrote about how they could help
save the Earth. Third grade also
completed activities that correlat-
ed to each day of the week that
included wearing hats for "Cat and
the Hat" and wearing wacky socks
for "Wacky Wednesday."
Third grade has been learning about econom-ics in social studies. In this picture students have completed their "five cars" in their as-sembly line and are showing they are done.
