Providing Operator members with educational opportunities to advance their knowledge, understanding and ability to success-fully operate and maintain water and wastewater treatment fa-cilities, water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
Introducing—the new MWWA Logo!
Operators! Are You Interested in Presenting a Paper at the Conference?
MB Conservation/Water Stewardship has determined that a one hour presentation by an Operator would earn 0.2 CEUs the first time it is presented. Subsequent presenta-
tions may be awarded fewer CEUs depending on the significance of any changes made to the content of the presentation. The operator should submit the details of the presentation including the technical content prepared by the operator, the audience to which it was presented and the length of the presentation. If you have further ques-
tions, please contact Donna Garcia, Certification Coordinator, 204-945-7065. Call for Papers information on the MWWA website at: http://www.mwwa.net/index.php/217
Email Etiquette
Email is a large part of all of our lives. Email etiquette becomes more important the more we rely
on email as a communication tool. As there are social etiquette rules for face-to-face communication, so are there rules of etiquette for email. Below are I.T.’s top three...
Limit the use of High Importance or Read Receipts Like the boy who cried “wolf” too many times, only use this if it is a really, really urgent or important mes-
sage. Use it too many times for non-urgent emails and people will start to ignore its status.
Do not write in CAPITALS. IF YOU WRITE IN CAPITALS IT SEEMS AS IF YOU ARE SHOUTING. It is a generally accepted rule of the Internet
that writing in capitals is the same as shouting. This can be highly annoying and might
trigger an unwanted response in the form of a flame mail. Therefore, try not to send any email
text in capitals.
Use cc: field sparingly. Try not to use the cc: field unless the recipient in the cc: field knows why they are receiving a copy of the
message. Using the cc: field can be confusing since the recipients might not know who is supposed to act on the message. In general, do not include the person in the cc: field unless you have a
particular reason for wanting this person to see your response. Again, make sure that this person
will know why they are receiving a copy.
As part of Budget 2012, Manitoba will boost tax incentives for employers who hire apprentices and provide on-the-job training, Selinger said. Hiring incentive tax credits for levels one and two apprentices will be
increased up to a maximum of $3,000 from the current $2,500.
The credit for levels three, four and five apprentices will be doubled to a maximum of $5,000 from the cur-rent $2,500. The Journeyperson Hiring Incentive will also be doubled to a maximum of $5,000.
Selinger said the new Rural and Northern Apprenticeship Training Strategy will consist of:
A new Journeyperson Business Start program to help new rural journeypeople start their own businesses
A new Skill Build program to upgrade and equip high school shop classrooms for apprenticeship training
Further development of online initiatives accessing services such as applications, course registration and payment, and an additional trades training courses to be delivered through online learning
An investment of $400,000 in mobile training labs in partnership with Red River College, allowing trades learning to reach more rural and northern communities, and
Up to an additional $1,000 apprentice hiring incentive for levels one and two apprentices, effectively doubling incentives for rural employers.
“Over the last several years, we’ve worked hard to expand Manitoba’s pool of skilled labour to meet the
needs of our economy. We’ve expended trades training facilities in Winnipeg, Brandon, Dauphin,
Thompson, The Pas and 12 other northern centres,” said Selinger. “Today we’re taking new steps to ensure
that all Manitobans can learn trades, get good jobs and start their own businesses.”
