Our next dinner meeting will be Tuesday February 23. Forty five minutes before that meeting at 5:45 I will
have a general informational meeting for those of you who have joined UNICO since September of 2014. I
conducted one of these sessions a few years and it was well received at the time. There are reasons for the
format of our meetings, the committees we have, and the causes we raise money for. I will explain all this to
you at this meeting. These were not choices we made just by pulling things out of thin air. Every UNICO
Chapter in the country is doing (or SHOULD be doing) the same things we do. If there are questions you have
about our structure or anything else you can bring them up at this time. If there is anyone who joined our
chapter before 2014 and would like a refresher course you can attend also. I promise the meeting will not run
long.
I still have a large number of 2016 UNICO Italian Heritage calendars. As most of you know we are sent enough
calendars for every member of our chapter but we do not mail them to our members because it would be cost
prohibitive. If you have not yet gotten a calendar and would like to receive one then please attend our
February meeting. I will hold onto them until the middle of the month and then as I always do the remainder
will be given to area public libraries for distribution. They are put on display for the general public to take.
Past experience has been they are gone within two weeks.
Lastly I want to mention that I have charged our Nominating Committee to start discussing a new slate of
Board of Directors and Chapter Officers for the coming year. My term is up in June which means we will have a
new President in July as well as the possibility of at least two other offices changing hands. We will probably
have some changes on the Board of Directors as well. As most of you know the new proposed slate has to be
ready for our April meeting which (Believe it or not) is only two months away. The Nominating Committee is
the same as last year: Tom Buzzelli, Bob Rinaldi and Dr. Carmen Paolino. According to our Bylaws the
committee consists of three members two of whom have to be past presidents. This will be discussed further at
the February meeting.

We received notification from Juniper’s of a price increase for our Dinner Meeting. Starting this month, the cost for the meal will be
$27 and we will no longer offer a complimentary glass of wine.
We’re sorry for the short notice, this should have went into effect when other prices increased there in September, but we were just informed. Thank you.
Please note, in order to eliminate the need to have singles on hand, it would be
easier for the Treasurer if you paid with exact change or by check.
CAROSELLO ITALIANO Many of you were blessed to have had the opportunity in the past to listen to WATR
1320's Carosello Italiano - a program dedicated to promoting the sounds of Italian and
Italian-American artists - hosted by the late Sarino "Rosario" Costa. This is one of the
only programs in the greater Waterbury area that promotes Italian culture and language
through the music and the broadcast - in both English and Italian. UNICO is proud to be
a long-time sponsor of the program and are fortunate that Sarino’s son, Joe is following in
his footsteps as the host and as a member of UNICO. The program runs each Sunday
from 10:00 am through 2:00 pm. How can you hear this program? Listen on your radio on your AM dial
at 1320 OR Listen online at http://watr.com OR Download the app, TuneIn Radio on your smart phone
or notebook devices. (Search for Carosello Italiano once you've downloaded the app and you'll be able to
hear the program no matter where you are.) Please tune-in and listen when you have a chance; you'll be
glad that you did.
Ascoltare e lascia che la musica portare gioia per le orecchie!
Don’t forget to
bring your
pennies & any
loose change for
St. Vincent de
Paul to our next
meeting.

UNICO PROMO While you’re listening to Carosello Italiano, be sure to keep your
ears open for the new UNICO Promo. Scripted by Francine Nido,
recorded by Lou Gelada and formatted by Joe Costa, the piece
invites people to rediscover their Italian Heritage by becoming a
member of UNICO. Information is included about UNICO’s history, mission and
objectives along with current contact information. Thank you to Francine, Lou & Joe
for making this happen!!

A FEW GOOD
UNICANS
ITALIAN CORNED BEEF DINNER
You all should have received your tickets to sell
and have hopefully asked Don for more. Can’t
stress it enough—we need everyone to sell, sell,
sell!! If we each sell only 4 tickets –we will have
over 400 people. This is our major fundraiser and
we need as much money as possible to fund our
scholarships and local charities donations. So
spread the word—share the flyer—invite
everyone you know. We’ve been billing it as a
way to “A great way to start both your St. Patrick
and St. Joseph Day Celebrations”.
It’s extremely important that we have a handle on
the count for the night. We want to be sure we
are prepared for the crowd. Advance returns
make registration easier and allows us to give
accurate numbers to the caterer. Bring your ticket sales to the next
meeting or contact Don directly.
In addition, we are looking for items to add to our raffle table. Gift
certificates to local establishments, bottles of wine, knick-knacks,
etc….anything that you can think of. Also—Dorene Rinaldi will be
collecting CT Scratch Instant Lottery Tickets to create money tree
prizes. You can bring tickets (in any amounts) to the next meeting
or mail to her attention at 171 Atwood Ave, Waterbury, CT 06705.
Finally, we will be sending out a volunteer sheet via email for that
night. If you’re able to give an hour or 2, that would be great. It’s
also a great opportunity for kids to complete their community
service hours.
Remember—this event is only successful if we ALL work together.
So PLEASE sell as many tickets as you can, gather up some raffle
items and plan to volunteer. Thank you!
