EVAPORATION

• Evaporation is when the sun heats up water in rivers or lakes or the ocean and turns it into vapor or steam.

• The water vapor or steam leaves the river, lake or ocean and goes into the air.

CONDENSATION

• Water vapor in the air gets cold and changes back into liquid, forming clouds.

• The water in the form of the vapors rising, cools down at a certain height and condenses to form clouds.

PRECIPITATION• When there is too

much accumulation or collection of water in the clouds, the clouds become heavy.

• This means that the air can no longer hold this much amount of water, and the water starts to fall back, mostly in the form of rain. *Click on the image to go back

COLLECTION• When water falls back to earth as precipitation, it may fall back in the oceans, lakes or rivers or it may end up on land.  • When it ends up on land, it will either soak into the earth and become part of the “ground water” that plants and animals use to drink or it may run over the soil and collect in the oceans, lakes or rivers where the cycle starts

TRIVIA

• Did you know that the water in your drink was around in the days of dinosaurs?

• This is because the earth has a water cycle that cycles around from earth to sky and back again.

• No new water is added to the water cycle.

• Only 1% of the earth's water is available for us to drink.

• A huge 97% of earth's water is salty water in the seas.

• A person can live about a month without food, but only about a week without water. If a human does not absorb enough water dehydration is the result.

• Frozen water is 9% lighter than water, which is why ice floats on water.

• Less than 1% of the water supply on earth can be used as drinking water.

• The total amount of water in the body of an average adult is 37 litres.Human brains are 75% water.Human bones are 25% water.Human blood is 83% water.

• Each day the sun evaporates a trillion tons of water.

• Water leaves the stomach five minutes after consumption.

• Two thirds of the water used in a home is used in the bathroom.
