Injury ReportUW is full strength with all 10 scholarship playerfinally healthy, but for the first 10 games at least oneplayer was out of each game. Shawn Kemp missethe first 7 games due to a knee injury (losses to Albany, Ohio State and Colorado State during that spanScott Suggs played only 2 minutes vs. Albany aftesuffering a concussion, leaving the Huskies shorthanded and missed 3 games with a sprained righ

foot (loss to Colorado St). Andrew Andrews misse3 games with a sprained ankle (loss vs. Nevada).

Seferian-Jenkins Sticks To FootballAustin Seferian-Jenkins has decided to not plabasketball this season, it was announced on Jan. 2The record-setting tight end for the Husky footbateam played in 17 games last season as a freshmafor the UW basketball team. He averaged 1.1 pointand 2.1 rebounds in 7.2 minutes per game. The Huskies were 13-4 with ASJ on the squad. Through twseasons on the football field he owns Washingtoncareer tight-end marks with 110 catches, 1,388 yardreceiving, and 13 touchdown catches.

Three-Point ProwessThe Huskies have a pair of long-range bombers thaare assaulting the Huskies record books. C.J. Wilcox is steadily climbing the UW three-point chartand is up to third all-time in UW history with 174Next up is Deon Luton with 212. Scott Suggs inearing the all-time list too and has 110. No. 10 othe list is Terrence Ross with 116. When it cometo accuracy, Suggs is 6th all-time in UW history a41.0% (110-268). Wilcox is 8th in UW history makin40.0% of his career attempts.

Reverse Trend in ReboundingWashington has finished first in the conference in re

bounding four-straight years, six of the last eight anhas finished first or second in each of the last eighseasons. If they are going to continue that trend, thHuskies are going to have to hit the glass in monumental proportions. So far this season, they are 10tin the Pac-12 in rebounding with 36.7 per gamewhich currently represents their lowest averagsince 2004. The biggest culprit in the reverse trenis that UW is last in the league with 23.7 defensivrebounds per game and they are only grabbing 65%of the rebounds when the other team is on offense.

Wilcox Diversifying His GameEveryone knows C.J. Wilcox can shoot from th

outside. Entering the season, statistically speakingit was easy to tell he prefered to fire away from outside the 3-point line. Entering the year, 56% of hisfield goal makes came from behind the 3-point arcwhile 61% of his FG attempts were 3-pointers. Hhas diversified his game this year, according to thestats. So far in his junior season, of Wilcoxs fielgoal makes, just 37% have come from beyond 3-poinrange and 43% of his attempts are 3-pointers. Despite moving closer to the rim, his scoring averagehas gone up and not surprisingly, so has his field goapercentage. He is 46.2% this year after entering thseason as a 43% career shooter.

Who Are These Guys?THREE-HEADED MONSTER: The Huskies backcourtis one of the strengths of the squad. The Huskies havetalent, size and experience at the position thanks inlarge part to the trio of senior captains Abdul Gaddyand Scott Suggs and junior C.J. Wilcox. Gaddy isthe Pac-12s leading active player in assists, Wilcoxwas honorable mention All-Pac-12 and ranks third inUW history in 3-point makes, and Suggs, a 41% career3-point shooter, returns from a broken foot that costhim all of last season.

Both will be counted on to con-tribute right away after spending a year learning Ro-mars system, putting on weight (Jarreau has gained25 pounds since stepping on campus) and developing

their games. Andrews will be counted on for big min-utes off the bench to spell the guards, while Jarreauis the fifth starter.

THE WALK ONS: The Huskies gained a pair of new-comers that chose to walk on during the summer.Quinn Sterling joined the Huskies early in the sum-mer and traveled with the team to Europe and Africa. The 6-foot-4 guard showed his shooting prowess onthe trip but has been slowed this fall with a stress frac-ture in his foot. Dion Overstreet joined the team aftercontacting the coaching staff expressing his interestto join the team. The 5-9 guard averaged double-digitpoints at Edmonds CC.

Huskies Are NBA ReadyUW has developed a reputation for sending players tothe NBA during Lorenzo Romars first 10 seasons ashead coach. Last year, UW was the only Pac-12 schoolwith multiple players selected and for the first timeever saw two players selected in the 1st round (TerenceRoss, 8th to Toronto and Tony Wroten 25th to Memphis).A total of 6 Huskies have been selected as first roundpicks under Romars tenure to equal UCLA for the mostamong Pac-12 schools. Eight Huskies were on NBA ros-ters at the start of the year: Will Conroy (T-Wolves/cut), Spencer Hawes (76ers), Quincy Pondexter(Memphis), Nate Robinson (Chicago), Terrence Ross(Toronto), Brandon Roy (T-Wolves), Isaiah Thomas(Kings) and Tony Wroten (Memphis).

    UW Picked 5th In Pac-12 Pre-Season Poll

Washingtongarnered 272 points, including two first-place votes. The last time the Huskies were picked to finish fifthwas in 2008-09 when they ended up winning the Pac-10regular season title. Last year the Huskies were pickedto finish fourth, but ended up winning the title. Arizonawas predicted as the winner of the league by a veryclose margin. The Wildcats edged UCLA by one pointdespite receiving one less first place votes than the Bru-ins. California was picked to finish third and Stanford

    World Travelers

The Huskies embarked on a two-week trip this summer to Europe and Africa that saw them visit Barcelona, Spain; Nice France; Monaco; Paris, France; andDakar, Senegal. During their foreign tour, the Huskies

played six games and went 3-3 against professionateams. Scott Suggs and Abdul Gaddy led the team wit13.5 ppg, while C.J. Wilcox was third with 13.2 ppgBut more importantly, the team had many experiencesthat will stay with them for their entire lives. While onthe trip, the team saw such sites as the Eiffel TowerThe Louvre, the Princes Palace in Monaco, FraggonardPerfume Factory; Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell and the1992 Olympic sites in Barcelona, Spain. They wrappedup their trip with three days in Dakar, Senegal (see nexnote).

    Dawgs Visit Africa

The Huskies capped their foreign tour this summer by

spending three day in Dakar, Senegal. While in Africathe team had a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Dakar, thecapital of Senegal, is home to senior Aziz NDiaye. Hereturned home for the first time in two years and servedas host, ambassador and translator during the trip. Theteam started their Africa leg with a visit to the BandiaAnimal Reserve, followed by a stop at the SEEDS Academy, where NDiaye got his basketball start. NDiayeled the Huskies as they ran a clinic for the youngemembers of the academy. The next day the team joinedNDiaye on a visit to his home where they saw the homein which NDiaye grew up. His mom cooked NDiayesfavorite meal -- fish and rice -- for the whole team. Latethat evening the Huskies were scheduled to play DakaUniversity, but a severe rainstorm flooded the court andmade the venue unplayable. On the final day, the teamvisited Goree Island, a slave-trading post that served asthe last stop for millions of African slaves before theywere shipped off to Europe and the Americas.

    2012-13 Husky Basketball

a2012-13 Washington Mens Basketball Husky Notes

    High Post Offense

Washington installed a half-court high-post offense thisyear and has been working on the new system since thesummer. Luckily for the Huskies, they had 10 extra prac-tices to prepare for their summer foreign tour. LorenzoRomar learned the high-post offense while an assistantunder Jim Harrick at UCLA and has implemented thestyle at his previous coaching stops of Pepperdine andSaint Louis. The Huskies will still run the floor at every

opportunity as evidenced by their 85 points scored inthe season opener vs. Loyola.

Marching Up The ChartsBesides Romar, several Husky players are also threat-ening the UW record books. Abdul Gaddy enters hissenior season 8th all-time in assists and is the Pac-12active career leader in the category. He is coming offthe third most assists (182) in UW single-season histo-ry. Junior guard C.J. Wilcox is eyeing several recordshimself. He enters the year with the fifth most 3-pointmakes in school history and will break into the top-threeall-time if he maintains his current pace. Additionally,he is a career 82.6% free throw shooter to rank 5th all-

time. Aziz NDiaye is 7th all-time on the UWs blockslist entering this season and needs 8 more to becomethe fourth Husky with 100 in their career. NDiaye alsoranks 7th all-time on the UWs field goal percentage list.Scott Suggs entered the year sixth on the all-time 3-ptFG% list and needs 11 3-point makes to join Wilcox inthe top-10 list.

Sons Of SonicsShawn Kemp Jr. is not the first Husky player to comefrom NBA lineage -- specifically sons of Seattle Son-ics. Through the years, four other Huskies had dads thatspent portions of their NBA careers playing for the Son-ics. Here is a look at the list:

    Son (Years a Husky) Dad (Yrs a Sonics)Shawn Kemp, Jr. (2012-) Shawn (1989-97)Marlon Shelton (1999-2003) Lonnie (1978-82)Bryan Brown (1998-2001) Fred (1971-84)Mike Westphal (1999-2000) Paul (1980-81)Donald Watts (1996-99) Slick (1974-78)

Stuck In Neutral?Washington is 6-10 in regular season neutral sitegames (2-10 in the last 12) during Lorenzo Romars11-year tenure at the school. But, when it counts duringthe post-season, the Huskies are much better on neu-tral site courts. The Huskies are 13-6 under Romar atthe Pac-12 Tournament and have won three tournamentchampionships. UW is 8-6 on neutral sites in the NCAA

tournament and have made three Sweet 16 appear-ances. The Huskies went 0-1 at MSG during the NIT.Overall, UW was 0-4 on neutral courts last season andhave lost their last five neutral site games.

Filling Up Alaska Airlines ArenaDespite Alaska Airlines Arena (10,000) being the sec-ond smallest Pac-12 Conference home in regards to ca-pacity, Washington was second in the conference in at-tendance last season. The Huskies averaged 9,294 fansper game in the regular season (8,785 including NIT)and trailed only Arizona, which averaged 13,906 fans at

the McKale Center (14,545) each game. Cal was third, drawing 8,532 fans at Haas Pavilion (11,877).

    Reviewing 2012

Romar Leads UW To Another His-

    toric Season

Once again, Husky Coach Lorenzo Romar led the Hus-

kies to unchartered territory in 2011-12. The list is longof accomplishments that helps solidify Washington asone of the elite college basketball programs in the na-tion. Here is a quick overview of some of the programsaccomplishments during the year: For the first time in school history, the Huskies havewon 20 or more games in four-straight seasons. Washington has amassed 100 wins over the last fourseasons, the first time in program history they havereached the century mark in a four-year span. The Huskies won the Pac-12 regular season title witha 14-4 record, their 23rd conference title since 1911 --18 of those crowns are outright -- but only two of thosehave come in the last 58 years (2009 & 2012).

Fourteen conference wins equals the 4th most inteam history and just the 9th time the Huskies haveacheived that many league victories. UW advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 NIT Tour-nament, the furthest they have advanced in the post-season tournament and furthest they have advanced ineither the NIT or NCAAs since 1953. Tony Wroten was named Pac-12 Freshman of theYear, the fifth time in UW history they have won theaward. Wroten and Terrence Ross both earned first team All-Pac-12 honors, making UW the only team with multipleplayers on the first team in four-straight years. Returner Aziz NDiaye was a first-team member on

the 2012 Pac-12 All-Defensive team, while C.J. Wil-cox was honorable mention All-Pac-12. Lorenzo Ro-mar was conference Coach of the Year for a third time. The Huskies enter the year with more wins in theircurrent arena (921) than any other school. Their total isover 100 more than second-place Penn.
