WASHINGTON NEURORADIOLOGY REVIEWCOURSE DESCRIPTION

This two-day course for neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, and pathologists includes a comprehensive review of neuroradiology and current neuroimaging topics. The seminars provide self evaluation tools to assist the medical professional in improving diagnostic skills. Participants will be able to discuss the latest techniques and concepts with world-class faculty experts; and prepare for upcoming examinations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES• Describe the imaging characteristics of lesions involving the brain, spine, head and neck that

allow for narrowing of the differential diagnosis

• Recognize the findings of common CNS diseases, such as acute stroke or brain tumors by using the state of the art MR neuroimaging techniques, such as SWI, DTI, MRI perfusion and functional MRI

• Identify the CT parameters in participant’s own clinical neuroradiology practice to lower radiation dose for adults

• Distinguish complex neurovascular malformations of the CNS and appropriately refer for management

• Define the current MR imaging techniques of neonatal brain, recognize the normal brain and identify the patterns of MRI abnormalities in hypoxic ischemic injury, metabolic diseases, congenital malformations

DR. KENNETH M. EARLE MEMORIAL NEUROPATHOLOGY REVIEW

COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TARGET AUDIENCE

This comprehensive four-day review course offers high-level education to individuals who want to expand their knowledge about pathology in neurosciences. The target audience includes anyone in neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, neuropathology, radiology, or pathology practice wishing an update before taking maintenance of certification (MOC) examinations. This also includes neurology or neurosurgery residents preparing for residency in ser-vice examinations (RISE) or board examinations and neuroradiology fellows prior to entering practice. Pathology residents finishing residency or fellowship who had limited opportunities to rotate on the neuropathology service during training and pathologists in practice who find themselves encounter-ing surgical and autopsy neuropathology specimens for which they feel ill-prepared. Practicing or training forensic pathologists will benefit from the expert curriculum this course offers.

The course honors Kenneth M. Earle, MD who created the continuing education program to help neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists and pathologists prepare for their board reviews.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Examine imaging protocols for diagnosis and surveillance of neuropathology

• Apply a pattern-based approach for pathologic diagnosis of neuropathology

• Evaluate intracranial tumors, vascular abnormalities and white matter disease

• Distinguish the differences between the basic histopathologic, histochemical and immunohis-tochemical disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system

• Critique new research findings that relate to the molecular pathways to more effectively diagnose diseases of the brain and CNS
