Project 1 Hands On Activity - Evaporation Test ( Google Classroom ) 1. Get two cups: a. Add about ¼ of a cup of warm water to each cup. b. Add about 1 teaspoon of salt to one cup and mix it up well. c. Don’t add
any salt to the other cup.
2. Using different spoons (so you don’t contaminate), carefully drop a little bit of water from each cup onto a sheet of paper (colored
construction paper works best, if you have it, or you can use any blank paper you have).
3. Label the drops of water: “salt water” and “freshwater.” 4. Leave this paper somewhere that it will not get moved overnight. E. Leave the cup with salt water out for several days in a place that it won’t
get moved (until there is no liquid left) -- you need to observe this “salt water” cup in Activity 4. 5. In the morning, observe the paper that had the “salt water” and “freshwater” on it. On a separate sheet of paper answer the following
questions: a. What happened to the water? Why do you think that happened? b. What happened to the salt? Why do you think that happened? c. What do you think caused the water in your examples from Part 1 and the investigation in Part 2 to evaporate or condense?
6. Upload a picture or drawing of your experiment to Google Classroom ✅
Project 2 Hands On Activity - Freshwater Collection System Iteration #2 ( Google Classroom ) Calling all engineers! Your Freshwater Collection system must collect freshwater (so no salt inside) and use evaporation and condensation. Build your second iteration using the following items (you may use all or some):
A. small cup B. tall cup C. wide container D. short cup E. plastic wrap F. rock/marble G. Tape H. ice cube I. Warm water from the tap (please work with an adult at home for this part)
1. Review the ideas of other students on Seesaw Engineering Circle 2. Draw your plan, hint: how will it use evaporation? How will it use condensation? How will it collect the freshwater? 3. Build your freshwater iteration system using the directions above 4. Mix salt into warm tap water with the help of an adult 5. Cover the warm water, add your ice cube and let the water cycle help you collect freshwater~ 6. Take a picture of your design 7. Upload your design to Google classroom Please upload a picture or screenshot of your project to Google Classroom or to [email protected] u ✅
