GreetingsDear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope that each of you has enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you are looking forward to some very Happy Holidays in the month ahead, assuming that is, that the Mayans were wrong about the Apocalypse on December 21, 2012!

This is always a very busy season for everyone, but once again, the ladies of the Adult Holiday Party Committee (Grace Hallen, Chair; Patricia Iven; and Darlene McManus) have planned a fun-filled evening with lots of good food (appetizers and desserts), good drink, and good times. Again this year, the Party is a benefit for GRACE, our local, non-denominational, non-profit charity which provides food, clothing, and assistance in many other ways to families in need. Each party-going couple is asked to make a minimum contribution to GRACE of $30 in either cash or equivalent pantry items. What a great way for us who are blessed with so much to share with those who are facing tough times.

This issue of the Newsletter features pictures taken by our Candid Cameraman, Pete Fedynich, at the Children’s Halloween Party. He’ll also be on duty at the Adult Holiday Party, so be sure to wear your best smile while he’s snapping away. Those pics will make the next edition. That (and subsequent) edition(s) will be available only on the website.

Sincerely,

Bill Morton, Editor

Adult Holiday PartyThe Adult Holiday Party Committee (Grace Hallen, Chair) has announced that the Annual Warwick Parc Adult Holiday Party will be held again this year at the home of Grace and Paul Hallen, 7100 David Lane, 7-10:30PM. The Committee, whose other members are Patricia Iven and Darlene McManus, will provide drinks, appetizers and desserts in the Hallens’ beautifully-decorated home. As before, the party serves the dual function of providing a perfect venue for friends and neighbors to gather for fun times together at this holiday season as well as the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for GRACE (Grapevine Relief and Community Exchange). To that end, each couple is asked to make a suggested minimum contribution (fully tax-deductible) of approximately $30 in either pantry items or cash. Acceptable pantry items are: Ramen noodles, canned soups, milk (evaporated or condensed), canned fruit, pasta sauce, pasta, oatmeal, ground coffee, tea bags, syrup, flour (self-rising or plain), sugar, cooking oil, soap, shampoo, and laundry detergent.

Holiday Decorations Add To Festive Spirit in WP

To most of us, the holiday garland and lighting at the front entrances to Warwick Parc are nice things to see every day when we drive into the neighborhood. But to the members of the Holiday Decorations Committee (Darlene McManus and Inelda Alaniz, Co-chairs; Patricia Iven), they represent many hours of hard work. These ladies are examples of the volunteers who help to make Warwick Parc one of the nicest neighborhoods in Northeast Tarrant County. Their efforts, incidentally, help to maintain your property values. Please consider that you may also have an important role to play as a

Warwick Parc volunteer. Contact any member of the Board of Directors (see names and contact information under the Files Section of the WP website) to add your name as a volunteer on one of the several very important HOA Committees.

Please RSVP by December 1 to darlenemcmanus @cs.com.

Our roving photographer, Pete Fedynich, will be taking pictures as before, so don’t forget to

smile. The pics will be published in the next edition of the Newsletter.

“Novel Neighbors” meet the second Tuesday of the month, 1:00pm, September through May. Each member has the opportunity to host, choose a book and lead the discussion.

Paula Henderson has selected THE NAZI OFFICER’S WIFE, by Edith Hahn Beer, for our meeting at her house, 7000 Peter’s Path, December 11th, 1:00pm:

Edith Hahn was an outspoken young woman in Vienna when the Gestapo forced her into a ghetto and then into a labor camp. When she returned home months later, she knew she would become a hunted woman and went underground. With the help of a Christian friend, she emerged in Munich as Grete Denner. There she met Werner Vetter, a Nazi Party member who fell in love with her. Despite Edith's protests and even her eventual confession that she was Jewish, he married her and kept her identity a secret.  In wrenching detail, Edith recalls a life of constant, almost paralyzing fear. She tells of German officials who casually questioned the lineage of her parents; of how, when giving birth to her daughter, she refused all painkillers, afraid that in an altered state of mind she might reveal something of her past; and of how, after her husband was captured by the Soviet army, she was bombed out of her house and had to hide while drunken Russian soldiers raped women on the street.  Yet despite the risk it posed to her life, Edith created a remarkable record of survival.

She saved every document and set of papers issued to her, as well as photographs she managed to take inside labor camps. Now part of the permanent collection at the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., these hundreds of documents, several of which are included in this volume, form the fabric of a gripping new chapter in the history of the Holocaust -- complex, troubling, and ultimately triumphant.

There will be a $15.00 gift card exchange at this meeting.

Web Poll Participation Paltry

Thus far, only 3 people (in addition to the 6 Board members who participated in an earlier beta version of these same polls) have responded to our request that homeowners vote in the 2 polls posted on the WP website. Each poll takes less than a minute to complete.

Your HOA Board needs your input if it is to understand how it can best serve the needs of this community. PLEASE VOTE!

Please Secure Your TrashTrash which is placed in the trash cart but not inside a tied bag is NOT secured. Typically, in our strong North Texas winds, it is scattered about the neighborhood. It often winds up in the ponds because they are basically collecting basins. When this happens, the loose trash tends to clog the water intake openings (impellers). This soon causes the motors on the pumps to wear out resulting in an expensive,

and totally unnecessary repair, which must be taken from the HOA Operating Budget. The worst offenders in this regard are the plastic sacks which come from the grocery store, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.

Please take some extra care to be sure those trash items subject to scatter by the wind are properly secured inside a sealed bag before they are dumped into the trash. Another bad offender is any form of Styrofoam. Please break the Styrofoam into pieces that will fit inside a sealed trash bag before putting it in your trash cart. These simple steps can save your HOA and, therefore, you) a significant amount of money!

All utilities have been relocated and the contractor, Fain Construction, has begun Phase I of the construction of the roundabout. Phase I consists of constructing the center portion of the roundabout. Traffic has been routed on temporary pavement around the work zone and stop signs are in place in all four directions to enhance the safety of work crews. The project is on schedule and still expected to be completed in February 2013.
