January 12th and 13th
• Warm Up: What did John Maynard Keynes argue was the cause of recession? What did he say governments should do to limit depressions?
• Objective: Understand the economic problems in individual countries and how those countries tried to limit impacts of depression.
January 14th and 15th
• Warm Up: What is meant by the following statement from your book? “The apparent Triumph of Democracy in 1919 was short lived.”
• Objective: SWBAT-Understand why democracy was abandoned in Europe between WWI and WWII. Summarize the similarities and differences between the authoritarian regimes discussed in Chapter 24-2.
January 19th and 20th
• Warm Up: Why were citizens willing to give up so much control to totalitarian regimes?
• Objective: Summarize the similarities and differences between the authoritarian regimes discussed in Chapter 24-2.
January 21st and 22nd• Warm up: What factors
were happening in Germany post WWI that allowed Hitler to gain so much control?
• Objective: Understand how Hitler developed his political views and the series of events that allowed Hitler to become a Totalitarian Dictator of Germany. Summarize once in power steps the Nazi party took to take away power from minority groups (i.e. Jewish people)
January 25th and 26th
• Warm Up: While in prison what did Hitler
realize was the only way he could become the
leader of Germany?
• Objective: Know where Hitler got his political
views, how he and the Nazi’s gained power of
Germany, who he blamed for WWI loss and
how he took rights away from the Jews.
January 27th and 28th• Warm Up: How did new
technology such as the radios and movies assist totalitarian regimes in influencing their citizens.
• Objective: Understand use of new technology in spreading ideas of totalitarian regimes. Understand how the despair created by WWI and rise of fascism impacted intellectual and scientific achievements.
February 8th and 9th
• Warm Up: Describe multiple ways the Treaty of Versailles punished Germany (you have to look up on your phone or page 782)
• Objective: Understand how Hitler ignored the Treaty of Versailles and Nazi Germany’s motives and path to WWII. Understand Japan’s motives and path to WWII. Give us all a’s
February 10th and 11th• Warm Up: Describe the
following steps (in one sentence each) Hitler and Nazi Germany took prior to the start of WWII.
• 1. Rearm
• 2. Remilitarize the Rhineland
• 3. Gain Alliances
• 4. Recover German Lands
• 5. Nazi-Soviet non-aggression pact.
• Objective: Understand Japan’s motives and path to WWII
February 16th and 17th
• Warm Up: Complete the primary source activity on pages 862-863. (10 Minutes to complete)
• Objective: Analyze reasons why the Nazis and Japanese were able to overpower their competition early in WWII. Understand USA’s position during the early years of WWII. Analyze why Hitler broke the Nazi-Soviet non-aggression pact.
February 22nd and 23rd• Warm Up: How did
Germany “trick” the Allied forces during their invasion of France and trap the Allies against the English Channel in Dunkirk?
• Objective: Analyze Hitler’s logic and reasoning behind breaking the Nazi-Soviet non-aggression pact
February 24th and 25th• Warm Up: What was
Hitler’s logic when he decided to attack the USSR?
• Objective: Understand Japan and Germany’s miscalculations when it came to USA’s determination and fortitude. Trace the course of the end of WWII.
February 26th and 29th
• Warm Up: How could
you defend the
following argument,
“Mussolini ultimately
cost Hitler the war”?
• Objective: Understand
how the Nazis and the
Japanese early
successes ultimately
led to their demise.
March 1st and 2nd• Warm Up: Use a device to look up the
dictionary definition of Holocaust (beside the genocide of the Jews by the Nazis) what are some words or events that you have lived through that have new meanings due to being such a powerful event throughout history? (Example: Columbine has a different meaning for me personally)
• Objective: Know Nazi and Japanese goals regarding the Third Reich and the Japanese New Order Understand the similarities and differences between how the Nazis and Japanese controlled conquered lands and citizens of conquered lands. For example how each governed and treated citizens of occupied lands.
March 3rd and 4th
