What are the three biggest issues in your campaign?
Your number one issue, and why?
senior and homeless housing. The wait for seniors looking for accomadations in a facility is 2.5-3 years and will get longer as our population ages as there are very few new facilities being built at the moment. The homeless population is also increasing asthere are fewer jobs for younger uneducated people, or affordable housing for single parents with the rising rental rates. With theclosure of inner city schools due to low enrollement these are being boarded up when they could be retrofited for low incomehousing or the homeless
Number two issue, and why?
Downtown redevelopement. Most cities are judged by the vitality of their downtown in Edmonton whyte avenue is better know and
considered the place to go for night life that does not include night clubs but more of a Pub atmosphere. We need to have moredevelopments downtown that include open air markets pubs or retaurants that include patios and green space making for a moreinviting and none threatening environment
Number three issue, and why?
Crime on 107ave. With the prliferation of massage parlours a increase in prostitution and drug dealing. This having a negativeeffect on the businesses on 107 as no one wants to be confronted by these people and businesses are not interested inrenovateing or refronting their buildings.
Which should be a higher spending priority for council, LRT construction or road construction, and why?
LRT construction As the city grows and sprawls a efficient LRT and transportation network to feed the LRT stationsincorporating the bedroom communitites around Edmonton ie Sherwood park, St Albert should increase rider usage cut down oncummuter traffic and should elleviate the need for new roads, expensive reconstruction and repairs.
City council has turned down a motion to hold a non-binding plebiscite on keeping the City Centre Airport as a
general aviation facility. Should the new council reopen the airport issue?
