Wauleska’s Scrap-books at

Metallic Club

The seniors have a real treat on Thursday, July 9th. Wauleska Taylor has agreed to bring some of her scrapbooks collected since the 1940’s to the present time. These books have many newspaper arti-cles about people and events in the Swansea area. Who Knows? There may be something about you in one of them.

The Metallic Club will be cooking snacks for Community Changers each day and on Thurs-day will provide the group with an ice cream party. We appreciate the youth and adults who make this event possible each year and Rev. John Harmon, our Youth Pastor, who plans and works hard that week.

Senior Will Visit WLTX-TV

On Thursday, July 30th, the adults and senior adults will travel to Columbia for the noon broadcast at WLTX-TV, Channel 19. There will be a tour by the General Manager, Rick O’dell, and then the group will view the “News at Noon” with Darci Strickland.

If you have ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes, now is your chance to see in person all that it takes to put on the news for you.

The group will leave at 10:30am from the church parking lot. There is no cost for the trip. Lunch will be dutch treat at Golden Corral on Forests Drive. Sign up today!!

Student Ministry News A lot has happened over the course of the past month that has brought about much discussion across our state and nation. We have taken some time to discuss these issues during our time together on Wednesday nights and we will continue to do so in the future. As we have those discussion I want to encourage you to do two things. First is to think, I want you to think about the issues that are being dis-cussed in our society. Think about what Scripture has to say on those issues and where you personally stand. I hope that you will allow

Scripture to be your guide as you form your opinions. Second, I hope that you will contemplate how you will engage our culture over these issues. The reality is that these issues, whether it be race relations or alternative lifestyles, are here to stay and thus we will be forced to respond in some way (refusing to engage in the conversation is a response in it’s own right). As you think about how you will engage our society on these issues I hope that you will again look to Scripture as your guide. Remember that God’s Word is the authority and “true truth” on all aspects of life. As Christians we have the advantage of standing on a solid foundation based on the revelation of God’s Word. I hope that we all will choose to utilize this advantage.

Changing gears, we have 3 events coming up. First is the tubing trip scheduled for Friday, July 10th. The cost for this is $15 plus your lunch. We will meet at church at 11:00am and go to Fuddruckers for lunch then proceed to the tubing location. We will tube the Saluda river and should be back at church by 5:00pm.

Next up is Community Changers, July 12-17. This year the theme is “Evangelism Boot Camp.” The cost of Community Changers is $50 and it is open to all rising 7th grader through graduated seniors. I have registration packages available in the office if you have not already received one. Community Changers will start on Sunday, July 12 at 5:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. We will be finished on Friday, July 17 by 12:00pm. All students will stay at the church during the week. If you need to make arrangements to go to practice or any other appointments please let me know in-dividually. We have a great week planned for you and I hope you will be a part of this experience.

Finally, we are planning a pool party for August. Further details about this will be given during our regular Wednesday night meetings. Translation, you need to be here on Wednesday night to find out about the pool party. If you have any questions about any of these events or need any forms please do not hesitate to ask. John Harmon Eph. 3:16 *****Don’t forget to check out the calendar for upcoming events*****

Meredith Moments

I hope everyone has been enjoying the warm weather! I have been stuck doing house maintenance in my free time (which has not been much). However, the steps on my back porch collapsed from being rotten and simply needed to get fixed. Well, I decided I would tackle this one as a “do it your self-er”. I never thought there was a process out there that

would absolutely whip me, but this on did in the 101 degree temperatures. To make matters worse, the anchoring board was not anchored to the brick when the house was built which presented a big problem. Despite the challenge, I was able to install the steps through persevering determination. Jane Ann tested them for me and said they were good. Whew!

God teaches us a lot of lessons through life’s circumstances. Many time I conceive an idea, start running with it, and then falter. By my own admission, sometimes it is hard to keep going. However, despite challenges, hardships, or whatever it is we face, we need to persevere and keep moving toward the vision God has given each of us. God wants us to persevere and finish. God never said that becoming a Christian makes life easy. I have found that if anything, life has become more challenging every day I live it. Therefore, my message to you (and myself) is….get tough, persevere, and finish!

I hope everyone has a wonderful July and if you go on vacation, ENJOY! Until next time……. Sincerely,

Chad
