    IN AND AROUND WALTHERSON

NextDoor A New Online Social Media Platform for Waltherson

Weve created a page for our Neighborhood on nextdoor.com. Its a social media platform similar to

Facebook but focused on neighborhoods. On our Nextdoor site, neighbors share community events,

recommendations, items for sale/free, crime/safety concerns, ideas about how to make our

neighborhood better, and more. Please join us to build a better neighborhood by visiting this link:

    https://nextdoor.com/invite/gr8lu4mx5e0ckpqnab92

    Gym/Classroom Development proposal @ 4919 Holder Ave

We have been informed that Zion Christian School would like to build a gymnasium and 2 classrooms on

the field at 4919 Holder Ave. The Baltimore City Department of Planning has requested the Department

of Transportations Planning Division to inquire of the community if there are any traffic issues that need

to be addressed. We're still trying to get more information but if you live near the Zion Christian please

let your neighbors know about this and let us know of your concerns. We have a thread posted on our

    NextDoor site for public discussion.

    Note about Styrofoam Recycling

If you want to recycle Styrofoam but cannot make it to the sanitation yard, Waltherson member Louise

Harmony has offered to drop it off. Please get in touch with Robert Walshe at a meeting or by e-mailing

us [email protected] if you are interested. Please be patient, we will reply to e-mail towards

the end of the month. You can also leave a message for us on Facebook or tweet us @WalthersonAssoc.

Note: CHECK THE BOTTOM OF THE STYROFOAM CONTAINER FOR A NUMBER 6. Only number 6 items

are accepted. No peanuts or packing material.

    NECOP Northeast Citizens on Patrol

In Northeast Baltimore we have a district wide Citizens on Patrol program called NECOP. Thereasoning behind the COP program is that regular neighborhood patrols can make criminals feeluncomfortable and drive them out of our neighborhood. Participants meet at the Northeast Police

station at 1900 Argonne Drive near Morgan State and get a walkie talkie to keep them in contact with

the Police and then proceed patrol their neighborhoods in their cars. Patrols normally go out each

Thursday and Friday from about 7:30 - 10:30. For anyone interested in the Citizens on Patrol program,

    please contact Rob [email protected].

THE CARETAKERby Harold PinterDirected by Marlyn G. Robinson | April 19 - May 19

Two working class brothers invite a homeless man to stay in their dilapidated London flat, setting in motion a tug-of-war between domination and dependence, shifting treacheries, and

emotional camouflage in an atmosphere of threat, mystery, and delusion. The Caretakers

hilarious and wildly terrifying sequence of events have made Pinters 1960 breakthrough play a

    contemporary classic and worldwide hit.

Cast: Marc Horwitz, Michael Donlan, Michael Salconi

A play of strangely compelling beauty and passionThe Caretaker will tease and cling to the mind. The New York Times

Unity Urban Garden 4001 Southern Ave

We are gearing up for the 2013 Spring season! Here is an update of what's happening.

    GARDEN DAYS

Right now we will have garden days on Tuesdays, starting April 29 from 5:30-7:30. Email us or call443-

474-9757if you want to come on another day. You can also stop by whenever you like to do

maintenance once you have the lay of the land.

    INDIVIDUAL GARDEN PLOTS AVAILABLE

We still have plots available if you are interested in having your own plot to garden. You are more than

welcome to bring your family or a few friends and share a plot. If you had a plot last year please let us

know if you would like to keep it or not.

    GRANT UPDATE

For those of you who helped with the our last grant application, particularly the Waltherson

Improvement Association officers, we unfortunately were not awarded the grant to install a labyrinth

and for general maintenance. We will try again! If you know of other sources of resources of funds

    please let us know.

If you don't necessarily want to grow your own stuff we need help with the following:

Tend strawberry patch. needs weeding, this doesn't take too much skill, and you will know

whats a weed and a strawberry plant. we've had amazing strawberries the last few years.

General trash pick up inside garden and sidewalk/gutterthere are trash cans at the rear of thegarden.

Weed pulling around parameter. this will take a little more knowledge , but we can show you

difference between the weeds and plants.

Grass cutting- we can give you more instruction about this.

Tend herbs- a little knowledge about herbs would be helpful.

Sit and Enjoy- we just don't want you to work in the garden but enjoy sitting in the shade area.

Its important to have an active presence in the garden.. so take a book and spend some time in

    the garden.

Maintaining compost bins-maintain balance of materials and harvest compost

Managing rain barrels-clean roof gutter and maintain spout attachment.

Grant writing- we need actual cash to keep the garden running, so if you want to learn how towrite a grant this is a great opportunity. If you have skills already those are welcome too.

Donations- if you want to donate money or purchase a load of mulch ( we really really need

this!) its been a challenge getting mulch from the city.

If you have other skills you'd like to contribute please let us know. Hope to See you at the Garden.
