A Message from the President

Welcome to springsemester at Wallace StateCommunity College!

This spring we areexcited to serve studentsin our newly renovatedBailey Center, the loca-tion of a One Stop Centerdesigned to make enroll-ment, advising and finan-cial aid services moreeasily accessible andstreamlined for students. This physical space com-plements our new online student portal at myWal-laceState. A holistic approach to serving students isalso reflected in the continued greening of campusand in activities supporting our Healthy CampusInitiative, including a bicycling challenge thisspring. The recent addition of landscaping and side-walks along Highway 31, recycling bins in build-ings, and a Clean Air Policy that prohibits smokingon campus except in personal vehicles support thatinitiative. Students are already enjoying the recentopening of a beautiful new spa-like setting for ourcosmetology program, and construction continueson Wallace State’s new School of Nursing and Cen-ter for Science slated to open in fall 2013. Thetransformation of our library into a modern learn-ing commons is expected to begin soon. Springtimeevents and activities for all ages and interests join awide array of classes on campus and online.

As an Achieving the Dream institution, our ini-tiatives are geared toward fostering student engage-ment and positive student outcomes, ensuring thatour graduates are well positioned to begin a careeror for university transfer. As evidence of our suc-cess, more high school seniors taking the ACT indi-cate a preference for attending Wallace State thanany other college in the Alabama Community Col-lege System, and the Aspen Institute recently desig-nated Wallace State as one of the top 120community colleges in America based on the out-comes our students achieve. Not only do we lead theAlabama Community College System in graduationrates, but a recent report in Community CollegeWeek also ranked Wallace State among the "Top 50Associate Degrees: Health Professions and RelatedClinical Sciences" in the United States.

Wallace State will be a great place to be thisspring. Join us and get inspired by the Wallace Stateof Mind!
