Dr Ian Dunn BChD MFGDP MSc (Perio)

Ian qualified from Leeds in 1998 and went into general practice in the North West. In 2001 he was awarded Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners. In 2002 he joined the teaching staff at Liverpool Dental Hospital in the Periodontology Department where was the Undergraduate Teaching Lead in Periodontics and held a Senior Clinical Teacher position until 2018. In 2010 he completed his MSc in Periodontology and 2013 he was admitted to the GDC Specialist List in Periodontics.

Ian spends three days a week in private practice in the North West of England, where he takes referrals for all aspects of Periodontology. He has served on the Council of the British Society of Periodontology and is part of their lecturing Faculty.

Helen qualified from Liverpool University Dental Hospital in September 1992. Helen works in South Liverpool for three days a week where she has been a member of the team for 24 years. The practice is a general and referral practice, where there is a team approach for patient care.

After 20 years out of Education, Helen embarked on a part-time degree course at the University of Lancashire. (U.C.L.A.N) December 2013 and she graduated with a BSc (Hons)in Dental Studies. Helen is the immediate Past President of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy, where her involvement with the society has spanned 15 years. She is passionate about the profession and the role we play in healthcare and feels the need for a more cohesive working environment among all team members and a better understanding of each other’s roles. Helen is a key opinion leader for Oral B.

Back by popular demand Dr Ian Dunn is joined by Ms Helen Minnery to deliver a day of lectures and hands-on training.

The sessions will incorporate Team work, Communication and Motivation with the latest clinical evidence in Minimal Invasive Periodontics. Hands on sessions will address the importance of accurate record keeping, consent and look at the practical aspects dental radiography including interpreting radiographs and liking the findings to the new periodontal classification.

Objectives:• Increase knowledge of when to refer and who to refer to.• Create an understanding of the importance of utilising skill mix and the benefit to the patient when we work as a team.• Talk confidently with their patients about the power of effective home care, knowing what should be used using sound evidence base.• Communicate the Perio message with their patients effectively and

understand various strategies that can be employed to aid patient behaviour change.

• Increase awareness of the key messages in oral hygiene and what can be expected in terms of tissue response.• Understand how minimally invasive treatment can produce the same

clinical outcomes as more aggressive treatment and how they are quicker.• Identify the key components that are required in patients notes.• Be able to compile from these key elements a template that they can take away and use in practice.• Understand the importance of beam alignment devices and basic intraoral radiography• Review and interpret small intraoral radiographs.• Link the radiographic findings to the new periodontal classification system.

Dr Conor DurackBDS NUI, MFDS RCSI, MClinDent Endo (Lond.), MEndo RCS (Edin.) Endodontist at Riverpoint Specialist Clinic, Limerick

Dr. Conor Durack graduated from Cork Dental School and Hospital in 2001. He worked in general dental practice in the UK, Australia and Ireland before taking a year-long position as Senior House Officer in Restorative Dentistry at Cork Dental Hospital in 2006.

He has been awarded membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (Royal College of Surgeons, 2007), Endodontology (Guy’s Hospital 2011), obtaining first class honours in his clinical masters (MClin Dent)

He also obtained his Membership in Endodontics (MEndo), from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and is registered as a specialist Endodontist with the General Dental Council (UK). Conors master’s research (Guy’s London) focused on the diagnostic accuracy of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in the detection of external root resorption, and has been published in the International Endodontic Journal.

He has extensive publications in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Endodontics, and he his author, co-author and editor on a number of textbook publications including;

“Pitt Ford’s Problem-Based Learning in Endodontology” “The Principles of Endodontics” “Pathways of the Pulp” “CBCT in Endodontics”

Conor is a co-author the European Society of Endodontology (ESE) guidelines and position statement on the use of CBCT in endodontics. Conor has been a member of the ESE Clinical Practice Committee maintaining and developing European clinical practice guidelines in Endodontology. He is a former president of the Irish Endodontic Society. He is a referee for theInternational Endodontic Journal and has refereed for the British Dental Journal and The Journal of Clinical Imaging Sciences.

Since qualifying at Trinity College (1980), Jane worked in the Health Services Executive. She achieved a Masters of Dental Science (1997) at Trinity College and a Masters in Business Administration (1998) at UCD.

With 20 years’ experience as a Principal Dental Surgeon Jane founded Dental Compliance Ltd, solving regulation and compliance problems for busy dental practices.

A member of the Irish Dental Association’s Quality & Patient Safety Committee, Jane is also on the Council of European Dentists where she chairs the busy Dental Materials and Medical Devices Working Group.
