We were forged in Detroit in 1916 by two men who understood that a company can make a difference when values take the lead. Trust. Integrity. Honesty. Character. Doing what is right. Words with great meaning that don’t seem to mean anything anymore. Well, they mean something to us. They form the foundation of a company operating 96 years after George Walbridge and Albert Aldinger built it.

Our singular purpose is to construct world-class facilities. Facilities Built for GoodSM by expertly-managed teams whose passion for safety, quality and service is a personal commitment. We believe the foundation of a strong relationship is found in the values that drive a company. Having mutual understanding of how success is achieved by an alignment of core values is a tool that is unparalleled to all. Our philosophy of producing added value, embracing change and a commitment to teamwork and innovation are the foundation of our Commitment to Excellence.

Walbridge is a Lean construction leader and innovator. More than a list of tools, our Lean Construction program is about understanding methods, applications and benefits to provide the right tools for the right job, applying Lessons Learned and reviewing our processes to increase productivity and reduce waste.

LEAN CONSTRUCTION

SUSTAINABILITY Walbridge is dedicated to providing environmental stewardship to the communities and ecosystems in which we build. In 2010, we became the first contractor in the United States to complete an airport terminal designed under the LEED® green building certification program.

TOOLS FOR SUCCESS QUALITY ASSURANCE Walbridge was the first construction company to become ISO certified and is currently ISO 9001:2008 certified. Every job site team implements a master project plan that builds in quality during each step of the project to ensure work complies with the contract documents. Walbridge’s effective Quality Control Plan eliminates the waste of defect and rework by identifying and correcting deficiencies early upstream in the construction process.

VSTART & VPUNCH Our proprietary VStart system manages the extraction, shipping, installation, start-up, testing, final acceptance and check out requirements for equipment. VPunch is a disciplined approach to plan, implement and visually manage the punch list process.

VA/VE & LESSONS LEARNED

VDC

By applying value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE) to construction projects, we can help owners realize substantial savings. In addition to the VA/VE Knowledge Base, Walbridge has established a Lessons Learned Knowledge Base which captures cost-savings ideas and tough lessons learned from both field operations and administrative management activities.

Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) is a process that produces a digital representation of a building’s physical and functional characteristics, was well as the surrounding underground utilities. Walbridge Technologies LLC, a subsidiary of Walbridge, uses VDC to deliver exacting design criteria, point out potential clashes and help eliminate conflicts, while saving time and money.

Walbridge is serving as construction manager on the extensive renovation of a former Pfizer facility to develop the new Western Michigan University School of Medicine. The building’s overhaul requires extensive interior demolition while keeping operational utility systems that run through the building and feed other research buildings on the former Pfizer campus. For the project, Walbridge is adding an interior seven-story stairway to the 330,000-square-foot building, constructing a three-story atrium that ties the existing facility to a new three-story coned-shaped addition, and adding a state-of-the-art 22,000-square-foot medical simulation laboratory fully integrated with audio-visual data capture solutions. The new addition, with its unique design, will hold two team-based learning tiered lecture halls.
