TEAM DAEWOO sET FOR RETURN

2010 Runners-up Team Daewoo Rent & Race have merged with Tampered Motor-sport to create Team Daewoo/ Tampered Motorsport for their 2011 attack at the Wakefield 6 hour Regularity. The Team was the first to enter so receive the number 2 on their doors with #1 Re-served for last year’s champion the Bad Earth Team. Richard Renato, Shane baker and Glenn Baker were all members of the 2010 run-ners-up Team Daewoo whilst Adam Ronke & Warren Sheehan come in from the Tam-pered Motorsport Team.

2010 The Daewoo Team were an outstand-ing performer with the team only losing by 0.2 on the Regularity factor or just 1 Bonus lap of Driving. The Team’s best performer last year Ian Kegg is absent from this year’s line up but the team has retained Richard Renato who completed the most laps with an outstanding display of consistent driving to bring Team Daewoo in reach of the Bad Earth Team. The Daewoo’s are all ex Daewoo Cup race

cars and some have modifications with a twin cam motor replacing the SOHC. Shane Baker was one of the ex Daewoo Cup competitors and thinks the 6 Hour Regu-larity is a perfect event for the nimble light weight cars. “The 2010 6 Hour was one of the most fun events I have had racing my Daewoo, I usually race a V8 Ute but in the 6 hour it doesn’t matter how fast you are is just how much fun you have.”Team Daewoo / Tampered Motorsport are very confident for 2011 Team Manager and Driver A Adam Ronke said “We have some very consistent drivers in our Team this year we are all great mates and to race together in a Team environment makes for a fun weekend”Over half of the Team hails from North East Victoria and have also competed in the Winton and Phillip Island 6 Hour events.

Wakefield Park is proud to present the 2011 Wakefield 6 Hour Regularity Relay. It is based on the hugely popular events that are held in Victoria at both Winton raceway and Phillip Island as a Team based event and the Wakefield Park event and is certain to gather popularity in 2011.

Last years Winners where a team from Newcastle called Bad Earth Racing the Team consist-ed of Phil Lawrence driving a Toyota Corolla, Shane Paton in a Toyota KE25, Joel Fitzger-ald in a Toyota RA28, Daniel Witcheld driving a Toyota MR2, Anthony Grant in a Toyota GT4 Celica and Garth Thomas in a Toyota AE92. The margin of victory was just 0.2 in the regularity factor which is the equivalence of less than one bonus lap out of the 300 + laps completed. This was an amazing result considering second place finishers Team Daewoo Rent & Race were over 100 points behind on the regularity factor after the first hour. Another Team that had an impressive run home to the flag was FIAT NSW which ended up finishing in third place.

The cars that compete in the 6 hour relay are basically what you would see at any super sprint or drive day with the rules tailored to allow people who have been competing at these levels to set up and have a run in the 6 hour. The biggest difference is that there are a lot more cars on track but with the installation of the TRACKSA warning system and the use of blue lights to indicate faster cars approaching and the emphasis on consistent lap times not the fastest possible it has proven to still be just as safe.

Please read through this news brochure as we have some more information about putting a team together. We currently have 7 Teams entered and indications are we will have a very good roll up of Teams which will make the weekend even more fun. This years event we will award trophies in for 1st, 2nd & 3rd outright the Team with the most laps the driver with the most laps, the driver with the best regularity factor, the Best presented Team and the Hard luck award.

I encourage you to contact us if you would like to become involved in this event as we can help you organise a team or even find a team for you to compete in.

Best of Luck

A TEAM MANAGERs GUIDEThe easy part of the event is just compe-tition . Putting to-gether a Team is not difficult but knowing were to start can be a challenge. If you are a part of a club it would be best to check with the com-petition secretary to see if he is organising a team. If he is not you should let him know that you would like to compete and ask if he could put a call out to club mem-bers.

If your not a member of a club then you should canvas your track days friend or post your interest on an Internet forum. Once you have the numbers (Between 4 & 6) you should con-tact Wakefield Park and gives us your contact details so we

can keep you up to date with when en-tries open and close.

If you don’t have enough cars and you don’t think you will be able to get enough together you can contact Wakefield Park office and we can match you up with a team. Usually we try to match you with like cars so you have more in common with you team mates.

2011 is set to be a great event with a number of new teams entering.

So putting a team together is easier than it sounds and if you have any difficulties along the way sim-ply call the Wakefield Park office and we will help you through it.

The Team manager plays a important role organising the team on race week-end. He will need to keep his team order and tactics close at hand if he wants his team to be well prepared for the 6 hour. Drama can often unfold in the six hours with break downs throwing team plans into chaos and many plans having to be made on the run. Each hour race con-trol issue an updated time sheet with who s placed were and the Team Manager can

then get a good idea of where there team is in the event. The Team Manager may have at time to liaise with race control over rule interpreta-tions and penalties. It can be a time a serious role but most people that become a team manager enjoy it immensely.

So if your interested in becoming a Team Manager and enter-ing a Team in the Six Hour call Wakefield Park and we can get you started.

The Scoring system is designed so that the team with the lowest Final Factor wins the event. The following is an explanation on how this Final Factor is arrived at and a description of thevariables that make up the calcu-lation.

*Goal LapsFor this example, each team com-prises a minimum of 4 competi-tors and each competitornominates a lap time in whole seconds that they believe they can maintain while on the circuit. Those nominated lap times (in seconds) are averaged and divided into 6 hours to give a theoretical maximum number of laps thatcould be achieved by the team. This number is thendoubled and rounded to the near-est whole number to take into ac-count “Bonus Laps” toarrive at “Goal Laps” for the team.

Example:4 drivers Driver #1 nominates 1:15.00 =75 seconds

Driver #2 nominates 1:20.00 = 80 seconds

Driver #3 nominates 1:19.00 = 79 seconds

Driver #4 nominates 1:12.00 = 72 seconds

Total = 306 / 4 = 76.5

21600 (6 hours) / 76.5= 282.35 x 2 = 564 Goal LapsTeam Managers to complete Com-petitors Lap Time Nomination Form (included in TeamManager’s Kit) and submit it to theEvent Secretary by 5.00pm on Sat-urday 9th July, 2010

Team Managers may change theircompetitors’ nominated times bysubmitting a CompetitorsLap Time Revision Form no laterthan 9.00am on Sunday 10th July2010 to the Event Secretaryor their representative.

*Bonus Laps A Bonus Lap is reward for main-taining regularity and is awarded when the drivercompletes a lap within + 0.99 sec-onds of their nominated lap time.

*Penalty LapsA Penalty Lap occurs when thedriver completes a lap under theirnominated lap time.

*Changeover LapsA Changeover Lap occurs when adriver leaves the circuit i.e. at achangeover. The inlap of the in-coming car and the out-lap of the outgoing car (a total of 2 laps, combined time exceeding 2:30 minutes) are not counted. The software automatically recognises a period in excess of 2:30 minutes and generates a Changeover Lap.It is shown on theprint out as *****.

*Achieved LapsAchieved Laps is the numberof laps actually completedby the team, varied by theaddition of Bonus Laps orsubtraction of Penalty Laps.

* Regularity FactorRegularity Factor is the differencebetween a driver’s fastest lap time and the average of their slowest 5 lap times.

*Factor 1Factor 1 is Goal Laps /Achieved LapsExample: 564 / 352 = 1.602

*Factor 2Factor 2 is obtained by averagingall the drivers’ RegularityFactorse.g. Driver # 1 = fastest lap(1:15.10) and average ofslowest 5 laps (1:18.28),factor= 3.18Driver # 2 = 3.12Driver # 3 = 4.87Driver # 4 = 4.42These factors are addedand averaged to determinethe team’s Factor 2, in thiscase =3.897

*Final FactorThe winning team has thelowest Final Factor.
