Description
June 11, 2013
Usually, I would not spend the time or energy on such trivial of a matter. I certainly know that your time as a District Attorney can be spent being much more productive. However, we are concerned about the business practices of Getty Images, who takes it upon themselves to procure "legal" fees without due process.
Let me explain, we received a what seems like a legal letter from Getty Images, stating that $780 USD is due immediately for the "unauthorized" use of their copyrighted image.
We did not received a, cease and desist, letter which is normal fair business practice procedure under these circumstances. Rather, they bluntly said that there is no other recourse but to pay the fine. We find Getty Images business practice in this case objectionable and crooked.
After reviewing similar cases on the website for unfair business practices, called www.ripoffreport.com we noticed that their are numerous business and ordinary people who have been taken in by this online scam.
What Getty Images does is flood the Internet with images along with the public domain ones that exist. Once a hapless victim picks up their image which has no "warnings" an uses them unwittingly. They use their legal team to track the offenders and exploit their innocence, by charging "legally" under some ruse of copyright infringements without warning.
This makes them millions of dollars and a cottage industry is born from financially torturing unsuspecting victims without recourse to legal due process. In common jargon, this is called racketeering, and is more adept to be used by shady organized crime syndications rather than fair business people.
I demand an investigation into this ruse and shady business practice immediately.as there are numerous business who are feed up with the so called business that Getty Images has conjured up at the expense of well meaning business people like myself, who actually sell products, rather than underhandedly stealing from hapless victims as Getty Images is doing in Washington State.
Thank you for your time looking into this matter.
