On behalf of the deacons, trustees, and entire congregation of Grace Baptist Church, we are pleased to announce the 40th Pastoral Anniversary of one of the nation’s most distinguished civil rights and ecumenical leaders and our Senior Pastor, The Reverend Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson! Under his leadership, our congregation has grown to more than 4000 members in three locations: Mount Vernon and Yonkers, NY and Port St. Lucie, Florida. We are thankful for Dr. Richardson’s demonstrated faith and unwavering service to humanity. We celebrate his legacy and we ask you to join us!
LEGACY AND ACHIEVEMENTSDr. Richardson’s career has been defined by a series of remarkable achievements. First, being called as Pastor of the influential and historic Grace Baptist Church at the age of 25, and following that with the distinction of being the youngest General Secretary of the 8 million member National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. Dr. Richardson has garnered revered board positions with the Insti-tute of Church Administration and Management (ICAM) at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Harvard University Divinity School’s Summer Leadership Institute for Church based Community and Economic Development, the National Urban League, and the Corporate Advisory Board for the Pepsico Corporation. Currently, Dr. Richardson serves as the Chairman of the Board of the National Action Network, which is considered one of the leading civil rights organization in the country. Dr. Richardson also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Virginia Union University and Chairman of the Congress of National Black Churches.
A community builder and organizer for decades, Dr. Richardson has played a pivotal role in the grass root efforts of reestablishing a cultural bridge between community and education. His insightful guidance is responsible for two Grace Church related Community Development Corporations which have constructed nearly 400 units of affordable and senior housing. These two organizations work in tandem as catalysts for economic and community development in the New York tri-state area. The Grace and Ujamaa Community Development Corporations form the backbone of the Village of Grace, also providing programs in children and youth development, health, education, music arts and culture and improved quality of life opportunities for all ages.
OUR CELEBRATIONOur celebration will encompass a variety of activities beginning Sunday, April 12, 2015 and concluding on Dr. Richardson’s birthday, Sunday, June 14, 2015. There will be high worship services, a Grace Baptist Church Cathedral Choir Performance and midweek Community Outreach programs, which will be announced on our website: www.gracechurchtoday.org. Join us and some of the nation’s most distinguished leaders for a wonderful and historic celebration of the 40 years of Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson’s leadership.
